I recently purchased some tickets using the Avanti West Coast website. In the first transaction, I booked a ticket from St Pancras to Derby (e-ticket) and a ticket from Burton-on-Trent to Euston (only offered as a paper ticket, possibly because I tried to book a cycle reservation with it). I received a confirmation e-mail, immediately followed by another e-mail stating that the BUT-EUS ticket could not be fulfilled and so my bank had been reimbursed. I therefore tried to book the BUT-EUS ticket again, this time alongside a return (two advance singles) from Tottenham Hale to Cambridge. Again I tried to book a cycle reservation; again the BUT-EUS ticket was offered as a paper ticket with the TOM-CBG tickets as e-tickets; again I received confirmation followed by a cancellation e-mail for the BUT-EUS ticket. So I tried to book BUT-EUS for a third time - this time I did not include the cycle reservation. It was offered as a an e-ticket, and this time it went through fine.

I checked my credit card detail and sure enough, the transactions are as they should be: three debits in total, plus two part refunds. So all seems to be fine as far as payments are concerned.

This evening I downloaded the Avanti app so that I would have easier access to the e-tickets. To my surprise, only the BUT-EUS e-ticket is available - the other tickets (STP-DBY, TOM-CBG and CBG-TOM) are showing as cancelled. I have access to them as downloaded PDFs, but I am of course now worried that they won't be valid and that I'll be asked to pay for new ones (or worse).

I have sent an e-mail to Avanti customer services asking why this is, and whether the tickets are valid. The automatic reply, however, says that they may take them up to four weeks (!) to respond. The tickets are for next week and the week after. I am therefore wondering if there is any other way I can check whether the tickets are valid. If I took them to a station, for example, would the staff be able to scan the PDFs (before the date of travel) and confirm whether they are still valid?

Or is this just a glitch in the app - am I worrying about nothing?

Thanks for any advice!

I could check them for you if you DM the ticket numbers from the pdf.
