TB, TCB and Rail Operating Centre (ROCs)

Following on the the above post, it mentions that Honiton area signalling is now TCB (Track Circuit Block) due it now being controlled by Basingstoke ROC.

I genuinely know nothing about signalling, so can it be assumed that if a signalling scheme moves signalling to be controlled by a ROC, that it is now TCB, and all other forms such as TB, etc have been upgraded?

I asked because NESA (National Electronic Sectional Appendix) shows the area as TB (Tokenless Block) but I know NESA can be wrong at times.

There appears to be an error in the key to the NESA map: 'TB' should read 'Tokenless Block' instead of 'Token Block'. Lines still worked by token are shown - correctly - as 'ET' (Electric Token).

I think it’s a typo. When the work was being done in 2011/12 NR media releases definitely said the whole route Tisbury-Pinhoe iwas becoming TCB using axle counters in the sections not already fitted with track circuits.

I understand that NR will be modernising the signaling Wilton to Exeter incorporating it into Basingstoke Panel. Salisbury will remain for while, no time scale suggested. Can anybody tell me more?

Here you are, @Legolash2o There’s also a succinct report on the signalbox.org website that explicitly refers to TCB replacing the TB system:

Control of line to be transferred to Basingstoke. The following boxes to be closed: Gillingham, Templecombe, Yeovil Junction, Chard Junction, Honiton and Feniton. Salisbury remains for now.

TCB (with axle counters in some places) will replace the Tokenless block system currently in use.
