ASB has rocketed since the Pandemic. BTP are rarer than everyone agreeing about Industrial Action on the Railway and Travel Safe Officers have limited powers. and with cameras everywhere the Culprits know they can get away with anything they want as long as there face is covered.
Staff assaults up here have sky rocketed where staff no longer want to come to work. Our own travel safe team, one member ended up in hospital with multiple head and neck injuries. BTP.. pointless.
Context. Scottish cup final and they drafted in from Wales and Birmingham for a normal football event. But staff getting attacked left, right and centre... No one to attend because they're attending another one elsewhere.
Alcohol ban... won't do anything because it isn't " a real law" apparently. can only advise that it mustn't be consumed or visible on board or in stations.
Someone with no ticket... well, taken off, wait a few services and pap them onto the next one where it's direct to the offenders stop.
I'm not going to begin a wrath of posts of arguments, all I will say is that unless you are in the situation and you can see first hand what is actually going on rather than what you THINK or ASSUME is going on, then there's no basis for comment. It's obviously fine to have an opinion, but don't think one knows something they don't know or understand.
Come and do the job yourselves and decide from there.
I can happily be corrected on this, but staff get paid for their training and competency for the what if's... not just to simply push buttons, check tickets, customer service, pull a few handles... I'll sadly refer to the Carmont disaster and the outstanding performance from a fellow sister who alerted who needed to be alerted...
Do away with WRD, it doesn't affect me personally.. bring Sundays in to the working week too.. but at least compensate for it and hire the staff that can fulfil the TT that each TOCs wants rather then create one that is based on OT. Because that's what they are. Only thing to blame is the recruitment procedures. But as they railway has done over the decades is hire the minimum and depend on goodwill OT volunteers.. and yet still want to cut more.
Booking offices... majority of people might be electronically advanced, what about our vulnerable passengers, our pensioners who may not have access to such things... Those who just have the general comfort knowing that they have someone they can go to quickly if there's some sort of ASB happening in that area.
What if you're a DOO service, (no dig at any DOO brothers or sisters, mainly a point) and the T/O is closed and there's a passenger needing boarding via a ramp.. I believe some TOCs advise the driver not to leave the cab and make arrangements via control to assist (taxi etc)... That's not good for the pax.
Looks like I ended up on a rant in one post rather than multiple. the general point is, there's so much more than just money. Yes it is a factor, but it's really not the fuel that's triggered it. It's been years coming and now it's came to boiling point. And really, only those on the inside will know it but no company will ever divulge in such short cummings, and when others do... It's apparently the unions starting it. NO. Members make the unions and the staff are speaking out because we've had enough.
