Hi all,

I'm looking for some historical information regarding a trip to New Pudsey on 12th October 1996.

1. Anyone have the 1996 timetable for the line from Leeds to New Pudsey?

2. A train from London Kings Cross to Leeds to arrive at 11:30?
3. What stock formed it on the day?

4. Could someone look up the train that arrived in New Pudsey at 13:30 (ish) from Leeds?
5. Anyone have an idea on the stock that formed that train?

6. Could you look up a train that left New Pudsey at approx 17:15 to Leeds
7. Anyone have an idea what stock formed that train?

8. What train departed Leeds within 30 minutes to London Kings Cross of the New Pudsey arrived ?
9. What stock formed that train?

1. I've got the January-June 1996 Great Britain Passenger Rai9lway Timetable (GBPRT). Slightly before your date, but things didn't change much.
The 12th October 1996 was a Saturday so there may have been engineering work.

2. Thee was an 09:10 from Kings Cross to Leeds (11:34).
3. It is marked as Intercity [IC], I would expect HST, but can't confirm.
4. There is a 13:18 Leeds to New Pudsey (13:28). This was a Scarborough-Blackpool North train. Leeds to New Pudsey trains were every 15 minutes(ish).
5. Sorry - No ideal of the stock.
6. There were trains at 17:06 & 17:26 from New Pudsey to Leeds (17:19 & 17:38).
7. The 17:06 Ex New Pudsey is a Manchester Victoria-York service. The 17:26 is a Hebden Bridge-Leeds service. No idea what the stock would have been.
8. Thee was a 17:35 Leeds to Kings Cross (20:10) [IC] service. The next train was the 18:40 Leeds to Kings Cross (21:17) [IC].
9. Probably HST, but not certain.

This was a trip to Farsley Celtic v Whitby Town in the FA Cup.

2. Sounds right. The wife wanted a look in Leeds and lunch before we went to the game
3. Yep mostly HSTs about that time.
4. This ties in nicely. The game was a 3pm ko so we went early to chat to my mates from Whitby.

8. I remember we had a wait which was good. Wife was really ill on the train and we suspected a miscarriage

Number 8 is probably the reason I hardly made Railway notes in this era and onwards for a while and also we did decide to really go for a family ... we have and they are healthy and happy.

Considering it was 1996 I am think maybe a 155s, 142/3/4 etc.

Much more likely to be Class 91+Mark 4 by 1996. The East Coast only had 8 HST diagrams by then. If the diagrams were like they were a year or two later, then the first northbound HST was normally the 1030 to Aberdeen.

Class 141 were also around until about 1997, and might have done Calder Valley locals at the Leeds end, but unlikely to have done the Blackpool services. Class 143 very unlikely; they spent most of their early lives around Newcastle, then moved to South Wales / West Country.

Yes, but leaving at 0830, the service from Harrogate will have been heading in the opposite direction from the OP.

The earliest East Coast HST diagrams that I have (that I've found so far!) are from 2000, but doubt they had changed much as they still had nine sets at that stage. On weekdays they were:
Hull-King's Cross-Inverness
Skipton-King's Cross-Aberdeen-Edinburgh
Leeds-Aberdeen-King's Cross-Leeds
Harrogate-King's Cross-Newcastle-King's Cross-Leeds
Edinburgh-King's Cross-Aberdeen
Aberdeen-King's Cross-Aberdeen
Aberdeen-King's Cross-Skipton
Inverness-King's Cross-Hull

So sets overnighted at Neville Hill (4), Clayhills (2), Inverness (1) and Craigentinny (1). The ninth set (on maintenance) was at Craigentinny. Despite being the fleet's home depot, Craigentinny only saw one set per night; Neville Hill would have been a more logical home, but GNER wanted to keep the work in-house as far as possible rather than contract out to Maintrain.

1D35 09:10 SO King's Cross to Leeds was booked E385/4 (so 91+Mk4) in the preceding timetable valid 24/9/95 to 1/6/96; I don't have a timetable covering 12/10/96.
1A27 17:35 SO Leeds- King's Cross and 1A29 18:40 SO Leeds-King's Cross also both E385/4.

The other WF I have is from 1979, so too early for your quest.
I had a summer job at Philips in West Croydon (now flats) in 1983, living in Shepherd's Bush, so I got to use a variety of routes to get to/from work, including Holborn Viaduct. But that's my last personal experience of the area really; I moved to Portsmouth in 1984.
