It was great fun being at the game. Not a great performance but the result is all that counts. Didn't get a ST this year as I wasn't convinced games wouldn't be put back behind closed doors over the winter although happily I was wrong. Definitely getting one now.

When you played them at home last November, it was 1-1 with 14 minutes to go, then Winchester City scored four times in that last period to register a 5-1 win.
I think Winchester City drew 2-2 recently in the reverse away fixture.

But Cirencester did the double over us in the league, so league form counts for nothing going into this match.

All Saturday matches had an early kick-off being the final matches of the season and AFC Wimbledon found themselves 0-3 down at half-time in a final attempt to stave off relegation. They pulled two goals back, but then Accrington scored to make it 2-4 and despite another AFC Wimbledon goal, this result means that AFC Wimbledon will be playing in League Two next season.

Thanks @Xenophon PCDGS ! We've won none, drawn 13 and lost 14 of our last 27 league games, plus a cup defeat to Boreham Wood. Very despondent as it is our first relegation in our current form.
At the other end of League One, MK Dons lost out on automatic promotion as Wigan and Rotherham both won. Rotherham is the best team I've seen in that division this season, and Wigan similarly, so no shame in seeing them get the spots ahead of us. Wycombe beckon in the playoffs, and I don't fancy our chances. We are allergic to playoffs.

But unlike the dour 0-0 derby against Guiseley, this was a fast and furious end-to-end encounter with both sides showing great pace on the counter. Both sets of players were allowed to enjoy themselves with little at stake which made it an enjoyable game.

Personally, I think we're down. But, I'm not all that bothered. I've little emotional attachment to the PL and many ways the championship is better for supporters.
We further lost Cooper and Dallas yesterday to injury, and already had a pathetically small squad anyway which has been our very predictable downfall.

Some notable Step 3 play-off final results in England today, meaning that Peterborough Sports and Cheshunt make the step up to the National League for the first time and a Scarborough club - the phoenix outfit Athletic - will appear once again. All part of a proper post-Covid rebalancing of the pyramid structure, with all three National League divisions increasing in number to 24 clubs for 2022/23.

As a Darlo fan based in Milton Keynes i am happy with Banbury and Kings Lynn. As a club owner I am not happy about the travel and costs involved in these games. They are in no way "northern" clubs!

The problem - as you will no doubt know - is that "north" and "south" in the context of the National League are relative to each other. Gloucester City, Brackley and even Bishop's Stortford play or have played in NLN due to the need to balance out the numbers between the divisions.
The situation is even more acute in Scotland with a Highland League and Lowland League at tier 5, when by far the greatest number of clubs are based in the south of the country. Brechin City unsuccessfully appealed on relegation in 2021 to enter the LL but were placed in the HL as per the rule in force at the time which saw the River Tay used as the dividing line. A much more balanced approach would have seen three Tier 5 leagues created - north, west and east - instead of just two, but that ship sailed when the LL was established back in 2012. And the whole shenanigans surrounding the absorption of junior clubs into the senior code would demand a whole thread to itself, never mind a single post.

There was one season where Gloucester were placed in the North division and Worcester in the South which struck me as especially bizarre.

Sounds like 2009-10 season.
Think Gloucester were playing at Cirencester that season having been flooded out from their Meadow Park home ground a few years previously.
The reason given was that Worcester City, despite being considerably further north than both Gloucester and for that matter Cirencester, were given a guarantee (after being moved to the Conference South the previous year against their will after no Southern teams were relegated from the Conference National) that they would not be moved back to the North division for three seasons without their consent.
Worcester City refused to give such consent to an early move back to the North, thus forcing newly promoted Gloucester, who had just won the Southern League Premier Division play offs, to take their place.
