SWR this weekend

I understand that there is major engineering work planned this weekend on SWR at Raynes Park, with all lines closed. The engineering works diary on National Rail website and also on SWR's website mention this, with details of all the diversions, alterations and bustitutions. However the online planners are all still showing SWR metro services running through Raynes Park on Saturday, albeit with a note (on the National Rail app) saying "This journey will not run as shown". Other apps such as Google Maps and Citymapper are still showing the services without the warning.

It's less than 3 days until the weekend, why is the correct timetable not yet loaded into the system and showing on the planners? Is there still some doubt as to whether the scheduled engineering will take place. Would be useful to know before I make alternative plans for travelling from SW London/Surrey into C. London on Saturday!

The description of the lines being closed in the Raynes Park area doesn't seem quite correct to me. It actually appears to be the Surbiton area that's closed. Services seem to be running to Chessington South, Guildford via Epsom and Shepperton.

This is from the SWR website (edited slightly to focus on Metro services):

The lines in the Raynes Park area will be closed all weekend due to maintenance work.

Saturday

London Waterloo to Dorking services will depart earlier and will be diverted after Leatherhead to Guildford.
London Waterloo to Guildford via Epsom services will be revised.
London Waterloo to Guildford via Cobham services will not run.
London Waterloo to Shepperton services will be revised.
London Waterloo to Hampton Court services will not run.
London Waterloo to London Waterloo via Wimbledon and Kingston services will only run between Kingston and London Waterloo via Richmond.
London Waterloo to Chessington South services will be revised.


However a lot of these services are still showing in the journey planners which is not particularly customer-friendly less than 3 days before the weekend!

That does fit with the information I have. Running via Wimbledon there will be:
2tph London Waterloo to Guildford via Epsom
2tph London Waterloo to Shepperton
1tph London Waterloo to Chessington South

I suspect you will find any Shepperton services will run via Richmond

Berrylands will just be abandoned for the weekend with no rail replacement buses (but can get a public bus towards Surbiton, but not towards New Malden)

It is fairly difficult to find out times of any rail replacement buses from places like Kingston, Cobham, Weybridge etc. In the past some fairly indirect services have been provided as there are a number of low railway bridges in the area which means only single decks can do the routes, unless the buses go very indirectly

Not sure why journey planners do not have the detail

Only taking this from what you chaps have written, nothing else, but this looks like they are clear to run down from Waterloo/Wimbledon to Raynes Park and on towards Motspur Park, with a block South of Leatherhead towards Dorking, but West of Raynes Park on the main line, the Suburban is blocked. Kingston Rounders only running between Kingston and Waterloo (via Richomnd), and Sheppy's either a shuttle twix Sheppy and Kingston or running Sheppy to Waterloo via Richmond. I could be wrong.....

The change to the Dorkings is presumably to give the Effingham route 2tph.

Since when have places like Taunton and Three Bridges been in their area, and they are miles further away than places not on the map such as Reading -Slough (Windsor) - Paddington

There are other oddities like showing every minor station from Westbury to Bristol, but ignoring most stations Westbury-Reading

Perhaps it's trying to help people be aware which journeys are affected and plan alternative routes rather than be pedantic?

I think it’s similar to maps they’ve used for years, albeit with the style slightly changed from SWT to SWR. Seems sensible to show alternate routes (from the south coast at least) using the Southern services?

Google Maps is generally quite awful at updating railway based journeys. Never updates platforms in real time as one example because (AFAIK), it uses majority base timetable data, and does not have a feed in with real-time information like Darwin etc. Queue people standing on empty platforms wondering where the train is!

I wonder why that is as bus information is pretty reliable as long as the operator has AVL and signed up to share location data. Railway data is a lot more reliable so guess they aren't hooked up to the right feeds.

I'm still completely confused as to what services will actually be running this weekend, in particular on Saturday.

The journey planners on National Rail and on SWR's website are now showing a limited suburban service through Raynes Park / Wimbledon (approx 5 trains per hour) - however there is still a note against each of these services saying "This service will not run as shown."

Is there a definitive way of finding out exactly what will run? Why are the journey planners still not up to date / accurate less than 24 hours beforehand? How are customers supposed to plan their journeys when the information is so inconsistent?

That does fit with the information I have. Running via Wimbledon there will be:
2tph London Waterloo to Guildford via Epsom
2tph London Waterloo to Shepperton
1tph London Waterloo to Chessington South

This should be the service that is running through Wimbledon/Raynes Park Tomorrow which is correct on NRE. Unsure why NRE is still showing that the service is subject to change.
