I spent the weekend in Manchester and got to ride the Metrolink for the first time in many years.
What I found very strange was the huge number of speed restrictions. It seemed like anything other than dead straight heavy-rail track, there was a speed restriction down to 40, 30 or even 20mph, when I'm pretty sure the normal trains back in the day would have happily bumbled along at 50mph or even more.
It's not like there's no cant on the track at all. I can understand some of the restrictions when street running, but even then there's a fair few places where it seems like they could have put a larger curve in rather than have the tram crawl along at 5mph.
