Juck a quick question - what's the name of the junction where the HS1 connection from Ebbsfleet joins the North Kent line between Northfleet and Gravesend? I can't find a reference to it anywhere. And is the line between Southfleet and Fawkham Junctions now disused?

Springhead Road it is then. Thanks. Not a name I've come across before and I'll be going that way on Thursday.

Springhead Road Junction :)
Aren't there two junctions, about 205 metres apart, namely 'Springhead Road Up Junction' (slightly nearer Northfleet) and 'Springhead Road Down Junction' (slightly nearer Gravesend)?

Believe it's either not in regular use or completely out of use.

The sectional appendix labels Springhead Road Junction Up and S. R. J. Down (i.e. words slightly different order). As the original post wanted 'the junction', I trust the finer points of up and down sides are merely interesting additional information.

To the other part of the original post, I believe there is no regular booked traffic on the link to Fawkham Junction now.

There is no booked traffic over the Fawkham Jn-Southfleet Jn line, and it is shut by default. However it can be opened on weekdays if required for ECS diversions. I don't think any drivers have route knowledge of it though, so in practice it's unlikely to ever see any trains again.

Thanks for info. I assume then that this is a burrowing (grade-separated) junction,

Sprinhead Road Jn is, yes. It's also grade separated at the Ebbsfleet end. Fawkham Jn isn't grade separated.

Wasn't Southfleet - Fawkham used for rolling stock storage a few years ago? Possibly 1st-gen Eurostar sets before they went to Kingsbury for scrapping.

In the very early days of HS1 SE services, I seem to recall Javelins running empty on a Wednesday only (??) via Fawkham to Swanley and then coming back, to have a route refresher. The diversions into Victoria could be done as the drivers would ride in a cab of a conventional train between Swanley and Victoria. They also signed via Dartford and Lewisham so that a service to London could be supplied.

My understanding now is that no such service can be provided as diversionary knowledge has lapsed (too expensive and bothersome). The power, as I understand, is also either off or somehow defective on the connection as well.

Would be interesting to see if the proposals to ‘recycle’ that section come to pass as there was a desire to have a Victoria - Bromley South - Ebbsfleet service. I couldn’t see a business case, but then again I’m not some sort of visionary politician with a majority to maintain.
