I'm currently on a Transport for Wales service between Crewe and Chester (where it terminates) - a service with no intermediate stops (ever, there's literally no stations for it to stop at). Are there any other examples of this across the UK?

On Sunday morning there is an 0822 Cambridge-Kings Cross with no intermediate stops. I think this is the only remaining example of what used to be a common feature.

There are several late night unadvertised nonstops from Hayes to Lewisham. These run to allow the (DOO) trains arriving at Hayes (unstaffed) to be turned round without having to offload tired and emotional passengers first. Lewisham is the first staffed station.
And of course there's the Stourbridge Town branch which must score for number of trains if not distance :)

You mean end-to-end services between two stations where there are no stations between those two points to call at?

Yes, the Kings Lynn services are now the 'Cambridge Flyers' so they no longer meet this model.

You've got the Stourbridge shuttles, though these are segregated from the rest of the network.

With the Brighton-Hove shuttles not currently running, I can't immediately think of any others.

Bourne End to Marlow at peak times when the branch service is split in two rather than reversing at Bourne End.

There was the Cardiff Queen Street - Cardiff Bay branch, though currently the bay platform at Queen Street is out of use and trains are running through to Coryton.

If that’s what he means a few people answering so far have completely missed the whole point of the question...

Do Barnham to Bognor Regis short workings still run?

I missed that interpretation of the original post!

1928/2029/2129/2229 Cambridge to Cambridge North
2210 Cambridge North to Cambridge

have no stations between those two points to call at.

Was Chester to Crewe originally built for long distance services to use, rather than mainline services. It's interesting that on one side of the county they didn't try to build a station for every tiny hamlet and village but further east they did just that in places like Ashley and Middlewood.

If you're including TfL, the Waterloo and City line.

There were 5 intermediate stations between Crewe and Chester - Worleston, Calveley, Beeston Castle & Tarporley, Tattenhall Road and Waverton. They closed in 1952, 1960, 1966, 1966, and 1959 respectively.

Thanks. Interesting they closed when other villages kept their stations, especially when the Chester to Crewe service is a local shuttle service. Acton Bridge survived despite being on a mainline and it not being possible for many services to stop there without delaying other services.

There often seems to be little rhyme nor reason to the retention or closure of smaller intermediate stations on some lines.

The Brighton-Hove shuttle is an obvious one.

Of the places between Chester and Crewe, only Tarporley is of a reasonable size and the station was situated quite a distance from the actual town (village?), about 4km down country lanes.

Waverton is a village on the periphery of Chester with a frequent bus into the city centre, I would assume no-one would bother with the train really.

Is any of the Didcot - Oxford shuttles running non stop ?

Just asking as I know most of them have some small stations to stop at ( and some of them run to Banbury ) but there may be one or two during the day to start at Didcot and terminate st Oxford without stopping …

But there are still intermediate stations, thry just arent called at. The premise was services between two stations non-stop where there are no intermediate stations to serve. Such as the example of Chester-Crewe.

Newport-Cardiff Central shuttles often run Rugby days and for other major events.

If the stations had remained open maybe new houses would have been built in different places.

I know from local history at one time Knutsford was a rural village in the parish of Rostherne but now Knutsford's a town and Rostherne is a village most people don't know exists. I think the location of the railway will have played a role in the expansion of Knutsford. A Manchester overspill estate was built in the 60s so a direct train to Manchester probably influenced the decision to build it in Knutsford.

Oh did I misread the question? my bad, I assumed it was just non-stop services cause I rushed to get the answer in :D
It's non-stop where there are no intermediate stations to call at. So if there was a train which did Dundee to Broughty Ferry and terminated for example, that would count. Dundee to Aberdeen non-stop wouldn't.

It's a service which essentially runs only between two stations with no intermediate ones en route.
