Oyster & Travel Card Questions

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me out as I'm a little confused.

First of I've bought advance fares for tomorrow from Cheltenham to London Paddington. It worked out more money to buy with Travel Cards as I've got advance singles.

Question is can I purchase the required travel cards from Cheltenham before we leave?

Next up Oyster!

I own an Oyster Card and next month I'm planning on getting a Disabled Rail Card which means myself and one other person gets the discount on National Rail fares.

Now I understand you can register your Rail Card onto your oyster card so you get the cheaper rate on capped daily travel.

But my question is as I will hold a disabled rail card can it be register on mine and a friends oyster cards? Or would they need to have there own rail card to get the discount? Therefore meaning it would be cheaper to buy paper cards?

You can purchase a Travelcard from Cheltenham if you wish. You get cheaper off peak singles as well as the cheaper capped rate once the railcard is loaded onto the Oyster. The accompanying adult is entitled to buy the child rate Travelcard for £3.00.

They can buy a paper child zone 1-6 travel card.

Be aware though that as some of the barrier staff aren’t aware of this, so if the paper ticket fails to work you may have some trouble - take a print out of the relevent page on TFL's website.
