Would someone be able to tell me is this valid through Woking?

It does pass through Farnborough Group twice but not the same station i.e. Farnborough Main and later Farnborough North Camp and Farnborough North in the same pass.

Winchester - Wokingham

Basingstoke is an appropriate RP for Winchester and Wokingham is a RP

Maps MW+WX

I think I'm just a little unsure of the group stations rule and the journey planners are quite happy with as was the person I spoke to at SWT.

There are currently no Winchester - Wokingham fares route Any Permitted. Fares are route Farnborough North or Route Reading.

My calculation is:

Routeing Points (RPs) for Winchester are Basingstoke and Eastleigh.
Wokingham is a RP.

Fares check
Winchester - Wokingham route Farnborough North SDS £14.00
Winchester - Wokingham route Reading SDS £15.40
Basingstoke - Wokingham route Any Permitted SDS £9.50
Eastleigh - Wokingham route Not London SDS £16.50
Therefore the only appropriate RPs for this journey are Basingstoke and Wokingham.

Permitted routes between Basingstoke and Wokingham are on maps CS, MW+WX and WW.

Map CS allows two routes:
  • Basingstoke - Reading - Wokingham
  • Basingstoke - Reading - Slough - Hayes & Harlington - Kensington Olympia - Clapham Jn - Streatham - Croydon - Redhill - Dorking - Guildford - Farnborough - Wokingham. It seems that both Route Farnborough North and Route Reading tickets would be valid by this route, but there are no trains this way in the current timetable!
Map WW allows one route:
  • Basingstoke - Farnborough - Brookwood - Ash Vale - Camberley - Ascot - Wokingham.
Maps MW+WX allow at least 3 routes:
  • WX: Basingstoke - Salisbury - Westbury, then MW: Westbury - Bath Spa - Chippenham - Swindon - Didcot - Reading - Wokingham
  • WX: Basingstoke - Salisbury - Westbury, then MW: Westbury - Melksham - Chippenham - Swindon - Didcot - Reading - Wokingham
  • WX: Basingstoke - Farnborough Main, then walk to MW: Farnborough North - Wokingham.
The question is whether this map combination also allows:
  • WX: Basingstoke - Farnborough Main - Woking - Worplesdon - Guildford, then MW: Guildford - Farnborough North - Wokingham.
My opinion is that this is a Permitted Route because there is no doubling back. Others may disagree. We debated the issue in September 2010 in the Double Back Question thread. It is not clear whether we reached a consensus.

Thanks John,

The other problem with this is that between Farnborough Main & Woking and between Woking & Worplesdon there is Brookwood (a member of Farnborough Group) but it is not shown on map WX.

As it is not shown on the map in the RG is it double backing and is it allowed?

If it is not valid then having already noticed the Kensington Olympia anomaly is the only valid route via Farnborough North one which requires walking between Farnborough Main and North stations?

Worplesdon is the only station between Woking and Guildford. The line splits immediately after Woking with the Portsmouth line (via Guildford) taking a sharp turn to the left while the Weymouth main line (via Basingstoke) carrying pretty much straight on. Brookwood is the next station on that line and is the point where the Alton line branches off.

Yes good point I have misplaced Brookwood, forgetting where the line splits.

As long as the journey is valid via Woking then I'll leave the semantics of Brookwood firmly in the other thread. :)
