Thanks for that, lets hope it was ok, none of them allocated today.

Very unlikely any of them will be in traffic, at least in the next few days or weeks. They are rather pulled about inside & not fit for passenger use.

Just seen 755422 is due out again today on 0945 NRW-SHM.

Im not surprised. Cheers.
Thanks for the info.

Q?, if 3 (3 or 4 car) 755's are running in multiple in electric mode, could they overload the 25 kV supply?
Each unit has 4 x 650 kW traction motors, so the total for 3 units is 7800 kW, some 2600 kW more than a 12-car 745.

Might that be a problem on the GE mainline?

No it isn’t. They are very clever little bits of kit.

I feel like if you tried to open up three /3s on electric all at once power supply wouldn't be the issue, more the fact you'd be travelling at a significant percentage of the speed of light within 5 seconds...

Good to know. Is there a line voltmeter in the cab, (quite common in Europe)? ISTR being told some years ago that when the Stowmarket Feeder was out of action, the line voltage could drop to 16.5 kV, but that was in the days of 86's so not such a problem.

755408 and 755419 have been back out today, 755408 was on the 0822 Ex SHM, and 755419 was on the NC621 diagram according to Part Time Spotter Blog.
Nice one. They soon got them back in order. Only realised after a return Cambridge tonight that I was driving 422.

As mentioned above, the units will automatically reduce their power draw when running in multiple on overhead power.
Volts, Amps, & Power draw etc. can be viewed on the TCMS screens but it isn't displayed permanently.

I spoke with a driver of a 755 at Sheringham when I first went on one back in 2020, and he confirmed that they were able to take advantage of SP speeds

I've been to/from Sheringham last Monday, and I noticed that all of the speed restrictions on the line from Norwich had been renewed - by appearance, quite recently - and all differential speed boards now showed MU instead of SP

Is that happening throughout the area where 755s operate?

There was also a pair which seemed to be operating in multiple in the Norwich station/Crown Point area, but I couldn't see which sets they were

They’ve renewed the boards on the Sheringham line with MU but the speeds are exactly the same as before in the same place with no change. The 755s can run in multiple but not in passenger service & not in electric mode.

Surely the software issues for multiple operation have been resolved and tested satisfactorily by now. It's been 2 years since complete service introduction!

Agreed. Testing is ongoing week after week & has been continuously. Stadler seem a little more positive lately but who knows?
Well, I have looked at reliability tables and it seems that the trains made between 1990-2015 are far more reliable than the 2015-present trains. I am not 100% sure why that is, but I have a feeling software may play a part...

Nearly always its software that’s affecting modern train reliability.

Could it be that the older stock has had more time to water down their early reliability issues too?

I’m not sure. It didn’t seem to matter that much back in the day. They where certainly far less complicated in a lot of respects.

Regardless, the 755s are speedy - they really do accelerate fast on diesel! Much faster than the 37s, 153s, 156s and 170s they replaced.

They will literally beat anything on electric. They're just that fast under the wires. Nothing will come close to a 755/3 on full power under the wires. Must be doing almost 50mph by the time they leave the platform.

Noticed today at Colchester North, half-way down platform 4 a "755 5-8 car" stop marker. Someone has attempted to pull off the grey plastic cover/sheeting.

When are you comparing them though? Those trains pre 2015 will have been less reliable when brand new

If we look at the 357, it was prospering within 5 years - in 2005, it was the most reliable train in the country. The 345s... well... are still at the bottom of the tables.
Other than that I will admit that I cannot get access to pre-2015 trains' reliability figures when new.
