Have Northern made a few tweaks to their TVMs recently?

It now seems MUCH quicker to be able to just do a search for your destination, and then select something simple like a Day Return without any fuss

Maybe I'm just imagining things but it all feels a bit more streamlined than it was a couple of months ago!

Were these machines at a staffed station? (or where there was another TVM that accepted cash?)

The Promise to Pay function is still visible on my updated Northern TVM which is at an unstaffed station

I thought I was imagining it. The ticket seller wasn't in his spot on platform 1 at shipley onr day last week and the machine on the platform worked great. Only odd thing was that Leeds wasn't on the "favourites" list despite almost every train from that platform terminating there.

I would suggest starting to print the tickets before asking if the customer wants a receipt.

I'm now commuting enough to make an odd period season save a few quid so might look at a flexi season again. The current offer doesn't seem as good as the trial so I'm in two minds about it.

Yeah, it was earlestown so that must be why.
Given the primary purpose is to allow passengers to pay cash, it makes sense that it's not offered when cash facilities are available.

In other news, barcodes are shortly coming to Promise to Pay coupons (when scanned by staff it will automatically select the ticket chosen on the TVM)

Interesting, so a theoretical passenger trying to avoid paying would need to gamble on not being checked on two singles or get a return to begin with if going between two unstaffed stations.

And of course if the ticket is one the passenger didn't want because the ticket the passenger did want is unavailable from the tvm?

Then you explain that to the guard and they will sell the correct ticket. It's simply to save time onboard.

Nor indeed are Keighley Bradford or Skipton - or Baildon :) (I didn't check the other machines but I imagine they were identical).
Can't upload my photo but it reads Apperley Br Bingley Cononley Crossflatts Frizinghall Guiseley Kirkstall F Menston Saltaire.
ISTR something in a previous thread about an algorithm that responds to passengers' purchases - even so it's a strange pattern.

Maybe it hasn’t had time to set itself up.
