These changes will be the biggest for seven years and feature a number of improvements, including:
- more frequent buses for West Shore and Biggar Bank
- new regular service to Furness College and Hollywood Park
- new links to Holker Street, for the Rail Station, ASDA supermarket and Barrow AFC
- better bus access to the Tesco supermarket
- simplified, more regular route around Holbeck estate
- simplified fare structure
- new Love Barrow identity on our buses, for a fresh new look
Full details are as follows:
1, 1A Furness Hospital Barrow town centre South Walney Biggar Bank
These services will be simplified to become:
1 Hawcoat Furness Hospital Barrow town centre South Walney Biggar Bank
All buses will follow one consistent route from Biggar Bank to Furness Hospital. On Walney Island, buses will no longer serve Long Bank and Westminster Avenue; they will operate direct to Biggar Bank via Ocean Road. At the Hawcoat end, buses will operate a clockwise route, serving Hawcoat estate first, then Furness Hospital grounds, then back to town. This is the same arrangement that currently applies in the evenings. The link to / from service 3 will no longer exist.
How often will these buses run?
Monday to Saturday daytime: every 12 minutes
Monday to Saturday evening: every 30 minutes until approx. 8.30pm, then buses every hour on Friday and Saturday evenings only, until approx. 11.30pm.
Sunday and Bank Holidays: every hour from approx. 10am until 8pm.
NEW 2 Barrow Tesco North Walney West Shore
This new service will replace the Barrow to West Shore section of services 4/4A. Buses will run to an improved frequency of every 15 minutes! The route will remain the same from West Shore to North Road, then will operate in an anti-clockwise loop via Cornmill Crossing, Town Hall, Ramsden Square, Tesco and back to West Shore.
