I was looking at a journey today and found an LNER class 8xx at Twyford Station

Has anyone else found similar surprises?

Also an Alfa Romeo that seems to have been squashed! In a similar vein I have seen a 450/444 combination captured on an aerial map view somewhere on the rural SWML but can't immediately remember where.

Not quite in the same league, however the Google Street View over Georgemas Junction has a 158 standing at the platform. So not unusual stock but given the service level pretty long odds of it being there at the precise moment the Google car crossed the bridge.

I assume this was a significant train, as you move down to the platform, there is many people filming it!
It's the Douro Valley line, very popular with tourists, unusual stock, freight, lots of abandoned steam / diesel narrow gauge and it's very own regular main line steam services too run by the national railways. It's a very scenic route combined with vineyards, great food & weather. The odds are a steam loco had just passed by and tourists with cameras were there.

Douro Historical Train

Portugal will take you back in time. The Historical Train of the Douro runs between June and October.

Travelling on the Douro Historical Train is like travelling back in time. In a route along the Douro River, the steam locomotive and the five historical carriages run the distance between Régua and Tua, on a unique trip to the past through the beautiful landscape, which is classified by UNESCO as World Heritage.

Nope, pretty much the whole passenger system is on there. I suspect the novelty for onlookers is having a flat wagon with the google camera on it. I think this is also the start or end of a filmed section as you can’t scroll further east on rail view at this point (although the line is on there if you go in from map view) so people are watching it set off or end, likely including rail staff.

There’s a similar crowd of onlookers at the end of the journey at São Bento station:

At Contumil you can have a choice of the nice English Electric diesel locomotive (again with an audience) or some more modern Electric traction. Take one for a spin.

There's quite a few visible at Lydney Junction on the Dean Forest Railway, albeit the view is dated June 2009, so it's well out of date, now.

The ones that are identifiable are 73002, 37308 and 31466, and there's also what looks like an Class 08 and a Class 71 (E60xx, I think). 31466 is now on the Severn Valley railway, and 37308 is still on the Dean Forest Railway. The latter do not have a Class 71 or a Class 73 on their books, so they must have moved on, although I don't know to where. They do have a couple of Class 08s on their books (D3937 and 08238) but I don't know whether one of them is what I'm referring to above; in fact, the view is so far away from the camera that I can't actually be sure that it is a Class 08!

It's a while since I went there, and a visit is possible soon(ish), so I'll have to see what's there then.
