Michael Portillo is back, minus the Bradshaw, but sporting an orange hat, with a new series on BBC2. This week he is working north from Dunbar to Peterhead. 25 episodes suggests 5 different trips.
The current Scotrail livery looks really smart in those aerial shots. Has Portillo been travelling on 380s and/or 385s, as I struggle to tell them apart!
All 170s today, so much easier to identify! The continuity isn't great, so probably a mix in terms of the aerial shots vs. what he's actually on.

See post #10.Curious as to where the next series will be.
Special stop order for Portillo?Interesting that Michael Portillo alighted from the train at Widdrington, Ackington and Chathill, all stations with just one northbound train a day!
Don't think so, as it was a Northern unit he was on. I'm trying to remember if we actually saw the train as he alighted.Special stop order for Portillo?
We don't actually see him getting off at Acklington so I'm guessing he went by road direct to Rothbury. How else would he have got there if no special stop orders? Multiple days? Not actually arriving by train?

Yes sorry, finger slipped.Possibly filmed on multiple days.
P.S. It's Acklington, isnt it?
I was a bit envious when he got to Thurso yesterday. Hopefully one day...
Usually nothing much about railways in these programmes. He might just as well be travelling around in a car.
