They’re diagrammed to work Hayes services all the day I believe with the same two units booked to stay there. The peak extra trains into P14 are I believe peak only diagrams that come from Old Oak Common and back again. Hayes & Heathrow stay at 2tph in the peak - it’s only Reading that goes up. I know a few sets rotate in the day, but normally they are Reading diagrams.

The issue would presumably be giving mileage to the 7 cars - both the first Up Heathrow makes the first Down Hayes service (which would need to be 9) & more diagrams available for Reading trains. Ultimately though if this is all temporary for just the short/medium-term it’s not too bad but those Reading trains can get rather busy.
I'd expect it to last till August/September time as the P14 issue effectively disappears when even a tiny bit of through running starts from the west as Paddington High-level platform availability and options then improves overnight.
Some of the Readings need the GW timetable revision for through running, hence some still running in the HL platforms for a while after that which given time lag from the start of through running makes it ideal to have the 7cars on Reading as it allows time for a "slow" (1 at time) conversion programme keep as many units in service as possible (given inefficacies of not through running on unit requirements).

Thanks for updates on 003 and 050, very useful. I was wondering if anyone has any record of 005 entering service as 9 car? I've got 005 first entry in service in West on 1 November and East on 4 November. Any sign of 009 being extended yet?

Just seen them described as ‘very very fast’ on a BBC London video. Interesting sense of speed.

They might just be comparing the Paddington to Liverpool Street journey time with the Circle line.

Indeed. Its a purporse built line with no conflicts (excepting Whitechapel / Stepney Green) in the central section so its certainly going to seem faster than most Tube services in C. London which have denser stops.

No, implicitly referred to the train.

Managed to find the video. 1:10 mark.

Video is of a BBC report reporting on Crossrail.

I suspect 009 is done but it doesn't yet appear to have done the usual things which follow conversion - eg the trip out to the first signal berth outside the depot / running in on the 5G74-5G79 schedules. Perhaps attention is being given to 345018 first. No sign of 345019 yet.

I think 013 is the next conversion as it hasn't been 'seen' since 13 January. All the other 7-cars have been 'seen' this week.

It would still feel "fast" relative to what someone who has regularly travelled across C. London has experienced in the past.
But they’re the same slow trains already being used not in the tunnels

Yeah I saw the video this morning. I don't think we can read too much into the precise wording of a non-technical source, who probably wrote the script via press release before stepping foot onto the platform, never mind into the rolling stock.

Interesting that the announcement said “This is a TFL Rail service to Abbey Wood”

Probably not got around to loading new data into the PIS - the same trains will already be running TfL Rail services on East & West so little point changing it whilst there’s no passengers around. It will be interesting to see if it does change when the central section opens as you’ll essentially have 3 bits of unconnected railway.

London Overground is 3 bits of completely unconnected railway.

Didn’t they once propose that in the phased opening, services running through the core would be announced as Crossrail from day 1, but the eastern and western surface sections would remain TfL Rail until linked?

But there’s been a lot changed since I saw all that on their website…

We've been told it'll all be known as the Elizabeth Line from day 1 of the Central Section opening. New name badges have been ordered and will be given out just before it opens. (Whenever that is).

It'll be good if they can also take on board the recently discussed initiative of reducing unnecessary announcements, but I doubt they will.

Where is the Liverpool Street station, in relation to the existing underground stations?
To the west. It’s basically under Finsbury Circus, midway between Liverpool St and Moorgate. Both ticket halls are expansions of the existing LU stations.

but this is really getting off-topic as we’re in the rolling stock thread…

You enter the main underground entrance for the circle/met/ham city/central line from the mainline concourse and go through the barriers.

Turn right as if you are going to head to the central line escalators and there is a new bank of recently uncovered doors/metal gates near the top of the escalators. These will open to the Elizabeth Line entrance. If you pass through those doors, you walk through a little walkway which leads to more escalators which take you down to the Elizabeth line platforms.

There are also entrances near the large metal art work in the broadgate development and from Moorgate underground station.

Indeed. Was just saying there are similarities but also differences. As with anything I suspect it will be a little bit of time before every roundel / badge / announcement / vinyl is changed.

The eastbound Crossrail track is parallel and directly underneath the Met/Circle/H&C tracks between Moorgate and Liverpool Street stations.

The westbound track is further south

345s are pretty high performance; I've ridden plenty of them by now and they do a great turn of speed between Liverpool Street and Stratford and between Paddington and Acton / Ealing.

Movements with both 345009 and 345019 today at Old Oak Depot.

345019 moved this morning, running to signal berth 0142 just after 9am and then back into the depot just before 10am.

Then, 345009 moved this afternoon, running to signal berth 0142 before 3pm and then back into the depot just after 4pm.

This should be a precursor to these two finding their way out of the depot to do test runs over the next few weeks.

I've been on one non-stop Hayes to Paddington before after disruption. They sure do accelerate quick, but you can get to that 90mph max fairly quickly too.

So of the 630 class 345 vehicles, how many are still to enter passenger service.
I am not up to date, and it was about 6 9car units and about 20 (10 x 2 extra cars) that been used in passenger service.

Does anyone have current position
