I have been through the thread and quite can’t piece the answer to this together and so will ask in the hope it is not repetition.

Would a more joined up railway have looked at the last northern renewal franchise and said, the Government owned 365s will become available soon and so let’s free issue them into the northern franchise and only take 321s etc that have to be paid for through leasing until the 365s are ready to transfer?

It just strikes me there may have been an opportunity to reduce overhead on northern with a like for like replacement therefore either reducing the subsidy requirement or releasing that subsidy for more productive application.

You’d be better off asking in the speculative discussion.

It looks like all 365s from Doncaster will be heading to Newport. I don't understand why only a few were carted of to Rotherham.
Because booths rotherham did have a contract for some 365s.
So I gather crewe was meant for Newport and some from Doncaster for booths rotherham. Clearance issues from Belmont put paid to that.
However problem sorted by moving the Belmont yard ones to Newport Simms via the route they take. But by removing the steps from them ie passenger doors before scrap departure.
Plus iff a move was possible from Belmont yard to rotherham getting to see it wouldn't be easy for those that wanted to see one.

I would like to ask? What do they mean by 'Public events'
With regard to 524 at the EKR? I would imagine they'll reconfigure one car to be a seated area set up for watching things like presentations, slide shows, video footage etc; perhaps one of the driving cars with all the seating facing forwards and a sort of 'stage' area/projector screen behind the cab for example, that sort of thing.

Yes it was APOLOGIES 25th January 2021.
However from a very reliable source off mine 60007 has suffered a fuel leak from the locomotive which resulted in a very small fire.
Hence 60007 failing. 60007 has recently only just returned back to service.
From being in repair and store at toton Depot.
However not including 365524. Only 9 x 365 left at Belmont yard .

Has 365524 arrived at the EKR?

From what I gather it's a driving car from 365540 which has arrived at Shepherdswell. This would seem to suggest that only two cars from 365524 are to be preserved, I think the plan was only ever for three cars. So not a complete unit, sadly.

I suppose this does, to a large extent, satisfy the "last built at York" - as it's highly likely 365540 and 541 were built essentially at the same time, so in terms of dates 365541's claim to that *could* be slightly mythical and only based on it having the highest number.

GN class 365s were not delivered in numerical order, and they did not enter traffic in numerical order.

But 365540 and 365541 were the last to enter traffic, having been in store at Ilford until well into 1998.

According to #808, 365540 went to Newport last Thursday. There was no suggestion that it was incomplete.

What is the source for the suggestion that a car from 540 is at the East Kent Railway?

Yes that's my post and most certainly was a four car at hanwell station in London when it passed through.
With 37800 on the front. One hundred percent a four car. However for the record there is some source off information from the 365 Facebook pages that 365524 will go by rail to Newport Simms Docks and then will get taken to ekr kent from there.
Its just possible that 365540 driving car has been detached at Simms scrap in Newport and that vehicle took by road from there to ekr. And then part off 365524 will have the same effect.
Probably because by road from Belmont is impossible.

It's been posted on another forum that driving motor 65974 from 365540 was delivered by road to the EKR from Newport last week.

Putting 2 & 2 together, that leaves, by my reckoning 504, 506, 510, 516, 520, 522, 528, 530 & 536 at Doncaster Belmont, 525 at Bicester MOD, plus the 2 centre coaches of 524 (72286 & 72287) and driving motor 65974 from 540 as "still extant". 540's DM and 524's TS + PTS are EKR-bound (if not there already).

9 to go...

When I saw the 365 driving car on the A2 near Canterbury, the unit number was missing and the coach number had been taped over.
With a bit of luck they’ll give it a completely new but hitherto unused number, and that will generate a few thousand posts over many future years. :D

Yes that's what I have not including 524 at Belmont in the tally. But I believe 524 might possibly be at Belmont which could well get transferred to Newport Simms first. Then by road from there the two vehicles going to ekr and then the rest for scrap. Probably easier to do this way logistically makes sense. Rather than by road from Belmont.
Causing an issue with x2 from 524 from Belmont to move on scrap move wise.

That's when we find out the carriage being preserved is actually 65919! (*)

(For the avoidance of doubt, this post is in jest, 65919 being the driving car from 365526 which according to records still seems to exist. In a different world it might have been good to have a vehicle put back to the original interior, since most people are of the view this was a lot better than their final guise).

One vehicle from 365540 is already at the East Kent Railway. Two vehicles from 365524 are to follow, for a total of three preserved as a static exhibit.

It’s one of those things where we have to wait and see what happens.

However it appears to be the case that we’re going to see one car from 365540 and two from 365524.

It may well simply boil down to what Sims are prepared to accommodate, combined with availability of transport. A bit of speculation, but it’s been said that the Sims operation centres around getting metal through the shredder at the right time and in the way most efficient to getting a full load of processed scrap on to the ship. It was complications with the move process which did it for the 315.
