Hi, are there any 701's in service yet with SWR?
No - there's all whole separate thread on this debacle

Their lease Expired first
Their lease actually expired in October according to the SWR/DfT contract, but was extended. The Class 455 lease expires in April but will obviously be extended.

My query would be why the 456 lease wasn't extended again.

Exactly, all the leases had expired as the 701s were so late. Porterbrook would no doubt be quite happy to keep extending the 455/456/458 leases as there's no future leases at present for the majority of those sets.

Now that 8507 has gone to long Marston can anyone confirm that it's to be reduced to four cars there before heading on to Widnes?

a) Manage on a 8 car max length (450 & 455) given reduction in passengers and save a small bit of money (lack of joined up thinking here given 458 and 707 reductions too?)
b) generate some more space to allow 701 fleet introduction

Thank you for this. Would you know if 455738 and 458505 are stored at Wimbledon? Would they be viewable from a public place or a passing train?
5738 is having an exam and is in the main depot (big shed Earlsfield end of depot). If you are lucky and the door for 8 road country end is open you will see it (winter obviously sees doors shut a lot)
8505 is in the cleaning shed on 4 road (big shed Wimbledon end of depot). You will sort of see it if nothing is on 3 road on the CET outside the cleaning shed as there are gaps in the side of the building that you can just see parts of 4 road inside. That road has 8516 open/country end, 8505 in the middle and 6017 buffers end.

Ride on a train past and try your luck?

Yes. According to a local source I know from long marston. Who has connections to the site.
They will go to widnes when made a four car. And the other vehicles most likely will go for scrap by road to Simms.
However still interesting to know further how many 458 are going there for storage and or onwards to widnes again locally have heard either 6 0r 8.

Any news on movement within the depot of 8504 and 6001?

No. It’s on the cleaning shed now, but it’s against the buffers, so can’t be seen from the District Line.
Ah right, that will be why I couldn't see it yesterday then! I also did the walk around the car park / gym steps / bridge and couldn't see it there either; is it inside the shed do you know?

Thanks Warren! (and thanks to you and others on here for taking the time to reply to all these pesky questions; it's very much appreciated). Well hidden from the public then. I'll just have to keep an eye on any scrap moves.

That one will go by road. As will 6005 and probably 6017.

It appears that 458509 re-entered service at some point over the weekend, possibly on Friday in the aftermath of the Virginia Water incident?

Changed status to N - Serviceable 21/01 before the incident.
Re entered traffic 22/01

8506 is now in for traction investigation. Quite complex faults so will need test runs and will need RTS exam (out of service for 30 days plus)
