It would appear that the Alton line has been given back one of their beloved 444 diagrams (albeit different to the pre-2019 ones and this time TEN carriages not five)

0854/1524 to Alton (and interworking Basingstoke stoppers) have been 10-444 every day since the railway restarted after Christmas; I only mention this in the thread I made for Metro services because I expect this to be as a result of the requirement for more 450s on the Reading lines. Said Alton diagram formerly was 12-450.

I rather selfishly love this change, as a user of the Alton line when not at Uni, and someone who did appreciate the admittedly undeserved booked 444s.

And more 450s on the Reading line are very welcome by me, in place of the rancid 458s.

Most likely the most that will ever go in a formation will be 8 Carriages like the 321s or 365 have been.
So four 456s could go or even a combination off 455/456 depending on what's swr are getting moved over into warm store. However when at long marston most very unlikely any 455 will come back.

Yes. Also porterbrook owned also.
At long marston. Long marston is a very secure facility part off a air field off which porterbrook now own. Originally part off st modwen. Who also have built many houses on this site as well.
However site is very secure sometimes stock has changed hands to cold storage here as well. However 455 456 etc could get used for and stripped for parts like the ex banbury chiltern railways mk3 commuter set is. Also ie onwards travel for scrap might go by road as well, sometimes the case.

Think that's an RTT gremlin, looking at Tiger for it's current working 2J27 to Hampton Court says the service has 8 coaches. SWR worry about gapping so don't think the 456s have ever worked as a 2 car since they came from Southern

They're forbidden from running them as 2-cars due to various locations where they're at risk of gapping.

It still is "part of" St Modwen, as Porterbrook don't own the site. Porterbrook have a 15 year lease.

Only operator who would need additional 455's and 456's would be Southern but it's highly unlikely that they will, especially if 379's end up at Great Northern and 387's then move to Southern.

Yeah it is it’s 8507 & 8517 going for 4 car mainline conversion. Both are sat in depot by the fast lines in Wimbledon Park waiting to be collected.

Thanks again. Made the trip down today and successfully cleared all the 'old' SWR fleet for sight. 456018 still in the same place on WD. 455907 in Clapham Yard and 455918 in service.

I didn't note those two down, although there were a fair number of 456s around the depot, so could have been parked up behind other units.
