You could hardly make this one up if you tried. The DfT decides to transfer management of the service from one contractor to another. The end result? Instead of nicely filling out diagrams at Cleethorpes, crew now pass/taxi over from Ferrybridge and Lincoln whilst Cleethorpes crew sit around.

If the DfT is looking to make some savings, it can start by preventing nonsense like this from happening.

EMT still providing the Guards / Conductors
Yes they are. Lincoln guards have learned it.
Cleethorpes are now spare and have spare turns.
However will be doing more turns to Sheffield. Whilst Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly guards tpex will do liverpool from may 2022.
Sheffield will learn liverpool and Manchester Piccadilly the hope valley.
However cleethorpes will also learn liverpool as time goes on.
Surprisingly cleethorpes guards gets four extra from December 2021.
With plenty off spare turns ready for the liverpool. However due losing the Barton on humber they are now all sat spare.
With the 156 returning on emr services for swap overs.
Very bizarre.
But very true as when I travelled the line late November .
This was being discussed on the train between tpex management from cleethorpes and the local rail users g
Groups and emr Lincoln guards mangers etc. As service was at the time undergowing change from transpennie crewe to emr guards and freightliners.
Makes u wonder iff emr do change any or tupe any off these freightliners driver over in due course.
Maybe because possible they have very little work and maybe job losses could be on the horizon due to less trains to the power stations there.

They do mostly turn up now though, unlikely the last few years under TPE

Part of the problem was, for a long time, that it wasn't managed by TPE - they just provided the crew (and, sometimes, the stock). The other side of the same problem is that TPE's units are wholly unsuitable for working the branch.

I've often thought that it'd solve more than just this problem, rather than continually trying to shift Notts - Liverpool from one operator to another, if Barton, "South TPE" and the East Mids regional stuff were all under the same organisation. It'd deal with this inefficiency, the (perceived?) Liverpool problem and more besides, without any loss of work for any depot and no significant additional route learning requirement.

(The word on the street is that the DfT wanted to keep resourcing the Bartons from Cleethorpes, but that TPE chose to use it as a bit of a bargaining chip for something else - the extra Liverpool work? - and the DfT called their bluff)

Well really it comes down to the awkward and rather nonsensical splitting of Regional Railways, and particularly RRNE. Or, in other words, politics. As usual.
