Anyone get any pictures of 455726s final departure from WD?
Anyone get any pictures of 455726s final departure from WD?
This is a significant new stage in the process. I’ll note this in a new update tonight if I can.455726 leaving Wimbledon Park by road today.
Meanwhile, there were at least two 4-car short formations on both the Windsors and the Kingston rounders today.4 8 car 450s transferred over to the Windsor side from today. 3 on Windsor’s and 1 extra on reading services.
2 is better than what was being achieved last week though.Meanwhile, there were at least two 4-car short formations on both the Windsors and the Kingston rounders today.
As I said before, it had better not snow any time soon!!!
There's definitely some peak hour 12 car workings that could drop down to 8 and still be relatively comfortable. Demand seems to have come back more on the shorter distance suburban workings than the longer distance mainline ones.It did seem silly running 12s around on Alton’s, Basingstoke’s and Pompeys off peak however the drop in capacity during PM rush hour won’t be appreciated.
450s on Windsor’s is an odd choice, especially with the amount of stations they call at, and their door cycle not being the quickest.
“5726 is waiting a traction motor. It will be reactivated. It’s in the engineering sidings on the London side of Durnsford Road. You can see it through the fence at the depot driveway before the entrance.”
Apparently all 456's to be withdrawn in feb
The situation is getting ridiculous. Currently, there are quite a number of 8-car 455+456+456 formations, with occasional 6-car formations as well. If the 456s are withdrawn, it means these services become 4-car.
Anyway, according to RTT, it seems a 707 made it down to Guildford 2 weeks ago. Insufficient 455 & 456s?

Not sure if it was the same units o the same diagram (I expect so), but the same day 707023/016 certainly made Guildford later in the day on the 1542 down via Epsom. The situation is getting ridiculous. that was during the weekend, probably due to engineering works they had a spare 707 and put it out on these services. It’s happened a couple of times in the past monthsThe situation is getting ridiculous. Currently, there are quite a number of 8-car 455+456+456 formations, with occasional 6-car formations as well. That motor wasn't changed. It had two dead ones in the end. And other units jumped the queue over it.Interesting that this was said by another user back in summer:
I wonder if it ever got the motor. That seems it would have been a bit pointless.
If they can spare more 450's than even less reason they will need the 458's for the Dec 22 timetableFurther class 450s are planned to be cascaded onto Windsor line services replacing 455s to alleviate the shortfall.
they are shortening 12 cars on longer distance routes which don't really need them. by December 22 they will probably need to go back to 12 cars.If they can spare more 450's than even less reason they will need the 458's for the Dec 22 timetable
but reducing frequencies as well so not as much stock needed. My assessment remains that the 450+701's will be more than sufficient for what is proposed. the only point of wasting more money on the 458's was if you were going rehome to elsewherethey are shortening 12 cars on longer distance routes which don't really need them. by December 22 they will probably need to go back to 12 cars.
I guess the other option would be to re-config some 450's to 2+2 seating a la 444 style. but that would be too easybut reducing frequencies as well so not as much stock needed. My assessment remains that the 450+701's will be more than sufficient for what is proposed. the only point of wasting more money on the 458's was if you were going rehome to elsewhere
All 456's are going off lease then in Feb. The 23rd onwards is going to be interesting.Wednesday, December 15th 2021

All 456's are going off lease then in Feb. The 23rd onwards is going to be interesting.
How many? Do we know?A further tranche of 450s will be cascaded to Windsor Line services, mainline passenger number recovery has been lower than expected.
That 22 means February 2022, not the 22nd February... I'd suspect the actual date is the 28th as most leases seem to terminate at the ends of the months. All 456's are going off lease then in Feb. The 23rd onwards is going to be interesting.
Indeed it has now departed for Long Marston. Would be sad if that’s the last we see of it as that was one of my favourites.According to someone on Twitter, 455847, SWR's oldest 455 numerically is the next 455 to be leaving. Has that even been in service this year? It returned from side-swipe damage around January last year I think but still hasn't re-entered traffic sadly.
I can’t believe there is a lack of space at Wimbledon given that 18 707s have “left the building”.Indeed it has now departed for Long Marston. Would be sad if that’s the last we see of it as that was one of my favourites.
Could I just clarify if they’re purely going into storage because of a lack of space at Wimbledon Park or is that the end for the units going to Long Marston?
According to what's been reported on Facebook there's a queue for the scrapline and they're in that queue.Indeed it has now departed for Long Marston. Would be sad if that’s the last we see of it as that was one of my favourites.

Disbelieve it if it makes you feel better. The pre-covid timetable meant 82 x 455 and 20 x 456 were required and 32 x 458 and 28 x 707 were in use and not in the depot. Current requirements are far less so a lot of the units are on depot, plus having 3 10 car 701s onsite plus the dead units that can't be shuffled and our visitors for the lathe meant it was gridlock.I can’t believe there is a lack of space at Wimbledon given that 18 707s have “left the building”.
Are the details of that queue given? As in the units and times? Thanks in advance if you can give any information.According to what's been reported on Facebook there's a queue for the scrapline and they're in that queue.
Awaiting space at the scrapyard for shreddingCould I just clarify if they’re purely going into storage because of a lack of space at Wimbledon Park or is that the end for the units going to Long Marston?
