Can't imagine £500 would have made much of a difference to be fair...
This wasn’t specially about the 360s (as far as the Railway Gazette article says), but more of reference to the level of micro-management by the DfT on maintenance expenditure. The point I was making given this is the case somewhere then it’s not too bigger jump to imagine that DfT micro-management is what’s been holding back an improvement of the 360s reliability.

First train of the week another 4-car unit full and standing. It's about time the Customer Service and Engineering Directors of this wretched firm got the push. No doubt sitting in their ivory tower debating the next adjustment to the livery or other important brand stuff.

Nor is reliability like a light switch.

Say you replace the suggested directors this lunchtime. Ok. That isn’t going to translate into improved reliability in the short, medium or long term. It wouldn’t address the issues suffered, which appear to be well known and understood.

From this thread so far it sounds as if there’s only 1 place that can fix any issues arising; and only 1 opportunity per day, Mondays to Fridays to get 1 unit there to be sorted. Running all 8 cars only allows for one unit to have issues with the way the fleet is currently utilised.

That could theoretically be addressed - but it would need pits to get under the train. Ability to turn the OLE on/off locally with involvement of the ECR. The sidings would need to become covered to provide a suitable environment to work in. You would need secure stores in which to keep spare parts and tools. Plus employing more very highly paid engineers. All while a DfT that is refusing 1 TOCs £500 repair bills is tightly controlling spending.

Or you could address it by reshuffling the unit diagrams to have fewer units stopped for maintenance - but why would you want to maintain unreliable trains less? That makes zero sense.

So your new directors would come in this lunchtime, see that there’s very very little to nothing that can practically be achieved; and the merry-go-round continues. A change in directorship works when existing senior management are ignoring existing practical solutions to problems. That isn’t the case here. EMR are playing the hand they’ve been dealt.

Regurgitating your repeated poor experiences here isn’t going to make one iota of difference.

17:39 from WELLINGBOROUGH to CORBY was running just over 20 minutes late this evening, apparently due to a fault with the train. It certainly seemed to accelerate out of Wellingborough station slower than usual. Hope that no-one actually needed the 17:39 for a successful connection further north as that would have been missed!

edit: according to Raildar, it was held at Bedford for an unusually long period of time and then canceled at Kettering.

whilst they may have missed their booked connection, they would have had a 15 minute connection into the next Nottingham train. Clearly disappointing for them, but this Is the benefit of the same connection being available every 30 minutes.

Had 121 yesterday. Full repaint, corrosion repairs, overhauled bogies ,repainted cab and toilets seems to have been the extent of the work done so far.

The bogies don't look fully overhauled from the photos I've seen. New dampers, yes, but nothing else that's obvious.

I just read in Modern Railways they seem to have decided not to have First class in the refurbished interiors. I think the possibility was raised earlier in this thread, but never confirmed.

By they I assume this means DfT.

Strange that from Bedford and stations South you can buy First Class (albeit Thameslink), and from Kettering and stations North via Leicester you can buy First Class. But passengers from Wellingborough and Corby can only travel Standard bar a handful of services. The best First Class provision for Wellingborough is actually until mid-afternoon on a Sunday when one Nottingham an hour stops there before the half-hourly Connect service starts up.

I hadn’t even thought of knock on fares issues, and on normal form I don’t suppose DfT will either…

Looks like Abellio have taken a page out of their Greater Anglia book - FC only on Intercity services…

Bit of a downgrade if you ask me, from a 222/hst with 125mph top speed, FC and catering service to a 110mph standerd class only and a very unlikely at seat service, The only things it benefits is more seats, faster acceleration and the fact its electric.

I still say the 379s should’ve moved over instead of the 360s - more appropriate interior from the get go (including luggage space for Luton Airport runs) and FC would’ve been retained…

I agree. I suppose it was the timeframe that made the 360’s be used instead.

And no issues with TMs and lack of gangway connections!

Most likely given they would’ve been replaced on two dedicated services by two different types of stock, whereas the 360s would’ve only been replaced by the 720s

Tbh, I'm not surprised, Corby is similar in distance/ time to Northampton, which has no Catering etc (alright some FC) but really its a commuter service, IMO they don't need FC.

It’s also the airport express from London to Luton. That particular airport would not be synonymous with first class travel either in my experience.

Agreed. That service just needs seats and luggage racks.

Especially when compared to HEX, which is only a 15 min journey…
