Hi all,

I intend to travel to Hassocks, meeting friends first at St. Pancras International.

They do not seem to offer an off peak return from St Pancras to Hassocks, only a 1st class off peak return or singles. The out & return singles would total £53.90.
However, I actually live near Alexandra Palace where they do offer an off peak Hassocks return for £39.60 which would pass through St Pancras.

I've checked BR Fares and I don't see any break restrictions that could apply, so I believe that I am good to buy the off peak return, break at St Pancras to meet friends then continue the journey with them?

Have I missed something or is this valid?

Thank you!

BRFares shows Super Off-Peak Day Returns (only valid at weekends) for £12.50, Off-Peak Day Returns for £16.00, Anytime Day Returns for £27.90, and Off-Peak Returns for £34.80 between St Pancras (or London Thameslink) and Hassocks with route Not Underground or Thameslink Only.

For fares from St Pancras to Hassocks assuming you want to go direct and not on the underground you need a ticket from London Thameslink.

Using the Thameslink site, if I were goint tomorrow (10am out, 7pm back) there's a day return, off peak, for £16 (no railcard). The price you quote seems excessive? Or are you out one day and back the next (even so, two OP returns would be cheaper!)

Thanks. Hadn't realised this!

Thanks! Hadn't realised I needed to use 'Thameslink'. I see the £34.80 return now (coming back another day!). Question still stands about the op return from AAP, as it's only a few quid more - could I get that and break my journey safely?

The ticket from Alexander Palace to Hassocks doesn't appear to have any break of journey restrictions, additionally as it is route "+not gatwick express" its not limited to the Thameslink route so you can if you want get off at St Pancras or Kings Cross get the Underground to Victoria or London Bridge and then a train to Hassocks.

Has it got the Maltese Cross? Without that you battle with Underground staff...

Yes, all Alexandra Palace -> Hassocks tickets seem to have the Maltese Cross symbol. And apart from child flat fares, all are routed "Not Gatwick Express".

In which case it seems like a decent deal
