Hands off our fast trains at St. Helens Central !!!!

Would you not swap them for a Merseyrail style 4tph stopping service? I definitely would if I lived there.

Very very long term it is prime for rerouteing into Central via Wapping as a through service to Ormskirk or Kirkby.

How would a Liverpool-St Helens Junction-Wigan journey time compare with via St Helens Central?

If not substantially worse, you could fourtrack that part of the Chat Moss (or create a new alignment) and path northbound fasts through there, which would allow Merseyrail to take over the St Helens Central line.

A fairly short section through Huyton and Roby - a dynamic loop in effect, not really four tracking. Worthwhile to get TPE past stoppers but not much else.
