Wasn't there a plan to double Haughley Jn?

There were some chunky renewals planned way back which could have given the opportunity to do so , a "reasonable requirement" to do so was put in by all the operators.

It was replaced like for like .....(shall we leave it at that)

Apologies for mentioning it, but I did share your pain at the time.

The supremely annoying thing is that the redoubling of this critical bit of infrastructure could have been done a decade ago (on the back of renewals) , for a considerably cheaper sum of money.

I recall ,apart from the greater planning flexibility that wold have brought , it gave around 8 mins of journey acceleration , particularly for freight.

How's that 8 minutes calculated please?
Higher speeds through the junction, the removal of performance allowances, or avoiding conflicting moves etc?

AIUI Speeds through the junction were largely unchanged. It’s removal of pathing time.

That sounds about right ......(anyway , the services are now even more complicated and intense) - freight and passenger.

I've not had an opportunity to travel on a 755 yet but imminently moving from Hinckley, all 170 action to Elmswell. So going to London via Stowmarket I'll have plenty of 755's instead of 350's or 390 Pendolinoes from Nuneaton to London Euston
