I am currently making my last trip out of the year, departed Nottingham this morning on the 10:06 Northern service for Leeds, departed and arrived bang on time. 158 861 did the honours.

Currently updating from coach M of first class on the 13:40 East Coast service to London Kings Cross, trying out the free Wi-Fi, which is very quick, a superb improvement on most free Wi-Fi I have tried. Leading us is DVT 82207 with 91119 on the rear providing the power. The 91 is still in GNER blue but the entire coach set and DVT are in the new East Coast silver.

So far so good, looking forward to the Caledonian Sleeper tonight, Spoiling ourselves with first class being as it will be our last sleeper trip for a fair while.

Until later.......

Very impressed with East Coast first class service, Been running now for 40 minutes, been offered tea/coffee twice, Just had a visit from the trolly with ice cold beer and water with ice, East Midlands Trains take note!

Breakfast panin out of stock so settled for cheese and ham, and my partner has ordered the vegi breakfast bloomer.

Wi-Fi has not crashed once, with a very quick signal.

Plenty of snow south of Doncaster, there was nothing of not between Nottingham and Leeds.

Saw my first class 70 at Leeds Midland Road depot, Also had the pleasure of going through Toton for the first time in may years on the Nottingham to Leeds leg.

Total white out south of Retford.

Good times.

We ended up with a Cheese and Ham panini and a 3 cheese and red pepper salsa panin, both were superb. 3rd round of hot drinks offered, plus the complementary sweet snacks, I had a lovely lemon slice and my partner had the Eat Natural snacks. I like it how they waited until you had eaten before coming round and offering you the sweet snacks, where some other companies just come round and shovel it infront of you 5 minutes after departure!

Snow has cleared now we are south of Peterborough, not a flake to be seen.

I cannot speak and higher for the service we have recieved on East Coast, very impressive, Polite staff who took time out to make sure everything was perfect for the customers. Slots in 2nd behind Wrexham & Shropshire for service in my view.

4 hour gap in London coming up before the sleeper north, Looking forward to hopefully checking out the Euston Tap, and a couple in my favourite London pub, The Crown & Anchor.

Signing off......

Heading north on the Caledonian Sleeper as we speak, hauled by 90020 'Collingwood'. 90039 bought the ECS into Euston. Keeping this short as I am typing this on my mobile. Just arrived at Watford, I think!

Will check in tomorrow, Guinness, whisky and haggis awaits!

Morning update.

Haggis, Guinness and whisky went down well last night, followed by a good nights sleep. Just waiting to head off to the lounge car for breakfast but we have come to a halt in the middle of nowhere north of Blair Atholl.

We ground to a halt some 10 minutes ago and since then have reversed a little, forward a little, reversed, forward, reversed etc.... The 67 is screaming up front and does not sound well at all. We may well me late into Inverness. Last I checked we were 16 down, that was some half hour ago.

At least you couldn't ask for a more scenic place to be stuck.

Will inform of any updates as they happen. Any Thunderbirds available?

Currently crawling, been reported online as signalling problems with a 30 minute late arrival in Inverness but the steward has said we are at least an hour down. Picking up speed slightly.

Just departed Kingussie after waiting for the Chieftain to pass, now with an expects arrival time of 10:10 in Inverness. About an hour and 40 late.

The new hot breakfast on the sleeper is a vast improvement on the old bacon or sausage roll you used to get, its still a microwave job but was actually quite nice, consisting of one bacon, one sausage, scrambled egg and a couple of small mushrooms and tomatoes, it came with a pot of tea, orange juice and a small bread roll.

Currently heading back into the snow, sun has come up and it's a beautiful winters morning.

http://www.thecrownandanchornw1.co.uk/ Great little pub on Drummond Road, just past Euston station, at the top of the same street as the well known Bree Louise pub, just turn right at the top of that road and its on the next corner.

Just a quick update on the trip, we arrived in Inverness this morning just before 10:00, the sleeper was a superb run, it was a god send being late, the sun rising and the scenery on the hours run into Inverness was something else. As I mentioned before the breakfast was a huge improvement on the sleeper, I couldn't fault it one bit.

Staying in the Royal Highland Hotel right next to Inverness station, we were given the wrong room so was upgraded to a higher room, the hotel is lovely, As with East Coast the Wi-Fi is superb, Glad I bought the laptop alone!

Weather is forecast for snow from Thursday, we come back south on the Chieftain on Friday morning so im hoping it not to bad!

Im really gonna miss the sleeper while our baby grows up, but it will be making the same trip once its old enough!

Night all.

With thanks - I'll pay a visit next Monday!

Good selection of real ale on, food is very good to. I swear by this place, normally pretty quiet during the week in the day time, so enjoy and have one for me.

Just a quick update from Inverness, have not done any travelling around by train while we have been up here but I popped down to the station this morning to video the sleeper stock being shunted. The West Coast 37 that was sat attached to a single snow plough has been joined by a DRS 37, but the pair still only sit with one plough attached, preparing for the snow this weekend? An EWS liveried 66 also arrived with the Stobart Rail containers, but apart from that it's been quiet.

Will be in the Chieftain to Kings Cross on Friday morning so will inform of any happenings and snow disruption (not that I want to see any of the White stuff until we are safely on our way!) along the way.

Still no snow in Inverness, hoping it holds off for our southbound Chieftain on Friday!

Well what a difference a day makes!

Looking this morning I noticed the Chieftain has only run to Perth, and will in turn start at Perth in the morning, leaving us to get to Perth in the morning. A bus ran up here from Perth on the Northbound but no bus is likely to run southbound in the morning, so it would be all the passengers for the Chieftain piling onto the 06.47 off Inverness to Perth, sardines springs to mind.

We decided that we will try and get the Caledonian Sleeper tonight and pick up or connection home tomorrow, but booking are suspended at the ticket office and we will need to try and get a walk up ticket later. Booking are still available online so to me that says the train is not fully booked, but only time will tell.

The sleeper is on the departure board and plans to run, I have seen the 67 awaiting the stock at Inverness Depot but the snow is bucketing down. Weather forecasts are showing that it will be -8 in the morning and steady snow falling all night around Aviemore, so we could risk staying tonight and getting home or pay out now and hopefully get through it tonight! Snow is forecast to get worse on Saturday and then we would be into Sunday services, and needless to say im running out of clean pants!

Apart from all that, it is a lovely scene up here, the snow is falling, the trains are covered, and I have just seen a 158 in the new Saltire livery, with a beard like santa, It must have come through a good snow storm somewhere!

Anyway, until I next get internet connection ill bid you farewell!

What's happening? According to NRES the sleeper hasn't departed Inverness.

We managed to get tickets and left Inverness 25 late, just arriving at Perth, this is the first I have had a half decent 3G signal so no idea how later we are, not been a bad run though.

There was supposed to be 8 passengers joining us from the Fort William section at Kingussie but there was nobody there.

A quick update.

We arrived in Euston this morning about 15 late and now we are at St Pancras where we hav had our tickets to the guy on the desk who has put us on the 09:15 to Nottingham, so overall we have managed to almost make it home. It looks like trains to Perth from Inverness did run this morning but to be honest I think we did the right thing and got home, plus I got another Caledonian Sleeper run in!

On our way home.

Connected to EMT Wi-Fi and sitting back and relaxing in a coach to ourselves on board and EMT HST, Being a HST rather than a Meridian has rescued the day a little.

I am still non the wiser as to the running in Scotland at the minute and if we can make a claim for a refund on our Chieftain tickets we were unable to use?

Got some cracking photos on the snow in Inverness last night and a few on the way home to. Breakfast baguette time now and a nice (ish) cup of tea.

Thanks for listening, hope to have some photos up later on.

You could be in luck - according to NRES the Chieftain is cancelled.

Plus you should get a full refund on the Sleeper going north, as it was over 1 hr late arriving. Nice!

Ill PM you.

Just found the Chieftain cancelled on National Rail, and looking back through my posts on here I found out we were 1 hour 40 odd late into Inverness on the sleeper Sunday night. Can't find anywhere online to back it up, and also where to apply for a refund to, but on the plus side if I get a refund for the sleeper and Chieftain I will make the money back I spent on the sleeper last night and a bit of pocket change to.

No refund from ScotRail as the sleeper was delayed due ti ice on the lines, which obviously if out of ScotRails hands.
