Eating at Doncaster

I'm sure I've posted this in the wrong place, but it's not strictly-speaking 'stations'.

Next weekend I'm flying out of Newcastle Airport first thing on the Saturday morning, and I'm getting into position to stay overnight at Newcastle Airport. I booked advance tickets from Doncaster to Newcastle a while ago.

The timings of the trains are such that I won't fancy eating when I get to my hotel, though ideally, so I don't have to worry too much about breakfast the following day, I'd like a 'substantial' meal the evening before the flight, so I was trying to work out what is at Doncaster.

Fundamentally, there's nothing on the station that'll be substantial enough, but as I've only ever used Doncaster as an interchange point, I don't actually know what's in the town.

I need to plan my train to get to Doncaster in the first place, I'm travelling from Grimsby but splitting at Donny as the advances I got were cheaper than anything that was available for the same journey starting at Grimsby.

I'd be hoping to have a sit down and a pint, and probably pay before eating or on an app so I don't have to wait round for a bill. A pub would be fine, although I'd prefer if it wasn't a Wetherspoons, so long as the service is quick enough.

I don't recall the Railway Tavern having food.

Does anyone have any suggestions within the general area of the station?

There was ( before covid) a hungry horse type pub in the interchange complex. Always did a good breakfast. There is a Greggs just along from it if you only want a roll.

EDIT: Although that is for breakfast and you meant an evening meal. I am sure the Hungry Horse will do cheapo full meals.

There is a place called The Mallard in the shopping centre attached to the station.

If you want some fast food there is a KFC and Burger King about 50 yards further on.

That means I leave Grimsby Town at 15.37, which suits me for the rest of the day.

It was open yesterday when I walked by at 1.00 and 5.30

Yes, I'd expect so. I've had breakfasts at The Mallard served within 15 minutes of ordering, presumably because it's just a bunch of pre-prepared items. It's no gastropub, but it's a nicer place to eat than the usual 'greasy spoon' cafe.

Speaking as a Donny lad myself, longest we have had to wait in the Mallard is around 30 minutes if really busy (sometimes on market or football days). Definitely long enough within 90 minutes. You can normally order through the Greene King app as well.
