I'm hoping to do a trip from Lisbon dep 0800 to Madrid arr 1930 in January via Badajoz which currently according to bahn.de seems quite easy, but RENFE's website for January shows only one morning Badajoz to Madrid train and nothing else. Does anyone know if major engineering works are planned which forces cancellation of the local services east of Badajoz? I tried looking on the RENFE website but nothing seemed to be going on......

Have RENFE input the times following the December timetable changes? I don't know, but they don't have a very good record in the past.

RENFE don't adhere to the December date (except for genuine international trains). Domestic trains are often loaded into the public system a few days before they begin operation.

Ok well thanks for that, I may hold fire until I know if trains will be running, as it's a long way to go to be bustituted!

No, there's no bustitution in the line except some weekends this month between Merida and Badajoz. Trains will run just fine, both the 18777 Badajoz-Puertollano and the 17907 Sevilla-Madrid.
