Value for money - best and worst First Class

Even on weekdays?
I'm aware it is indeed only coach K at weekends- but was under the impression at least J and K are First Class during the week.

When I travelled Avanti with my grandson at half term there were two first class and one standard premium coaches on the Pendolino from Liverpool.

Sounds like you were on an unrefurbished 350/4. Those seats, which are 2+1, are being removed.

I think all of those are now gone. The only place you'll find 2+1 First Class on LNR is the 319s.

The 2+2 seats do recline, though, unless broken. You lift the base and pull it forward.

That or perhaps at refurb they have been fixed in one position due to failures. Not sure, I don't generally sit in there as it represents extremely poor value for money. Only time I ever did was when there was only 1tph of 4-car north of Northampton which was often seriously overcrowded.

The SWR Diesel fleet has very nice first class (2+1, comfy seats e.t.c), and is arguably the best offering left in the South of England. Another great thing is that it is usually very cheap; I make the Woking to Salisbury journey a few times a year, and it is usually only a few pounds more on an advance ticket.
