Diversions due to the weather are costing Travelers more due to some direct routes being shut all week, and conductors only selling Tickets for an open, but more expensive route.

My early morning journey, from Mirfield to Wakefield, not only taking 5 or 6 times longer, is costing double, as I'm having to go via Leeds.

Northern are aware of the problem, but have officially declined to make an easement, as to not confuse Conductors (Northerns words not mine)

However, anybody in this situation, is being advised to send Northern their Tickets, as a very nice Lady called Jane has promised to sort the problem out, and refund the difference.

As this journey is already heavily subsidised by taxpayers, you are paying £1 to go via Leeds, is that right? That sounds very reasonable and I would hope that you would not be complaining at that. A more sensible way forward may be to replace these 50p tickets with a £1 ticket that allows more flexibility on route.

If I was getting that journey for £1 I would not be complaining.

On a plane somewhere at 35,000
Presumably you are complaining to the local council about roads that are blocked and causing you to take alternative routes ?

I guess you will be applying for the cost of extra petrol ?

I do wonder why you are having this problem, uksweet.

Where a direct line is shut, if a rail replacement bus is not provided, alternative routes can be used. Additionally if you politely ask a guard if you can go via a longer route in the event of a long wait for a train on a direct route, the guard will, 99% of the time, say yes.

My advice when taking longer routes would be to politely explain the situation to the guard and to ask nicely if you can travel the longer route. If done nicely, then I am certain they will agree.

Where has the OP stated the amounts for the journey? I'm sure ire more than £1 from Mirfield to Wakefield via Leeds!

Am I missing something here?

She, fair enough.

All this over 50p though. Honestly...

Well, what a SUPRISE, not One of You bothered to read the Post properly, Early Morning, isn't going to cost 50p or £1. Early Morning is FULL PRICE.

The 50p / £1 dosn't kick in untill after 9.30 hardly Early Morning, apart from the lazy Yuffs who think anything before Lunch is Early.

If the only way to do this journey is via Leeds, no guard is going to complain at you going via Leeds (unless you start being rude to them, as you have done to members of this forum in previous topics). I very much doubt that Northern are refusing to let people do this journey via Leeds if the direct route is closed and I very much doubt any guards would refuse travel.

Also even if they are asking you to pay more, Mirfield - Wakefield is £3.95 SDR Not Leeds or £5.35 SDR Any Permitted full fare , that's £1.40 more, not double which would be £3.95 more.

You never said how much you were being charged and when you said "double" my interpretation was that it was a repeat of your previous rant topic where you moaned at choosing to buy two 50p tickets to go via Leeds from Halifax due to an infrequent service via Huddersfield not meeting your needs. In that case it was double. In this case, it is far less than double.

I did say "you are paying £1 to go via Leeds, is that right?" which is a question. I had to make an assumption as you did not provide the information about your ticketing arrangements.

If you do not tell us what ticket you purchased, we can either ignore the request, or ask you to tell us, or make assumptions, and ask you if they are right. Which do you prefer us to do?

Well I'm not psychic and didn't know the WY Metro rules on pre-0930 journeys.

uksweet, have you posted for advice or to inform us of something, or simply to post a rant? Can you tell me how much you paid for this journey, and where the figure of "double" comes into it? And, as I said before, if you do not tell us what ticket you purchased, we can either ignore the request, or ask you to tell us, or make assumptions, and ask you if they are right. Which do you prefer us to do?

1) The CONDUCTOR knows the situation without Me telling Him / Her.
2)Northern have not given CONDUCTORS the ability to make that decision for themselves.
3) I know, and I'm sure You do too, there are and have not been and replacement Busses.

"in the event of a long wait for a train on a direct route"

If one may remind You of what You posted afore....

If that's the shortest available route, I'd say yes. If it's just infrequent on a Sunday then, no.

I was trying to tell People about the refunds available. When they may be charged more due to things beyond their control.

There was no need for anybody to comment, other than maybee say Thank-You.

"Which do you prefer us to do?"

Well, You didn't do any of It, just started making stupid comments about 50p / £1.

Sorry, How can anybody think, that this was asking anything, isn't the statement that a nice lady called Jane was sorting it a clue?

Everything I say is pounced on by Idiots who don't bother to read the thread.

NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY with more than 1 Brain Cell could have miss-understood what was said.

Why are You asking questions? I was making a statement. If You have been over charged, contact Jane at Northern. Can a Person make it any clearer?

So you admit that you were charged £1.40 more, not £3.95 more, as you originally claimed when you said you were charged "double"?

oh sorry i deserved that did i? saying that you wernt entirely which you wernt...
and then to go on and insult our intelligence? I invite you to sit in my fluid mechanics engineering mathematics and geotechnics lecture and see how many brain cells you have

In my opinion (which im still allowed to have last time i checked, as with everyone else on this forum) is that you were making a complaint about having to pay the extra fare...... so people responded accordingly, asking details and offering opinions... which is what this* is about....

*this being an open forum
