Trying to prepare for my DMI on Monday. Can anyone tell me anything about the training programme once you get on a course as i dont know that much about it? I know its classroom based for some time and then you do a certain number of hours with an instructor but was after a bit more insight in case they ask me about what i know about the training or how i will deal with any challenges of it etc? Thanks in advance

The training is 11 weeks in the classroom then you get handed over to an instructor. Moses than likely be with the instructor around 6-9 months. With them then you’ll go through all the traction, handling and route learning etc. You need to hit 265 hours driving before you can look to pass out. It’s broken down into 225 daylight hours and 40 darkness hours.

Hi mate, I emailed Laura last week to see what was happening with the Carmarthen depot and when the assessment's will be and she sent this to me, 'It depends when TFW are looking to introduce Carmarthen into the driver plan, I will have more information in a month or so.' hope this helps

There are currently 12 trainees at Chester waiting for an instructor most of which have been sat at homee since May, with slim to no chance of getting a DI til after the new year, the other guys have been waiting since July, they're looking most likely an April availability. They've now put a hold on Chester courses so if you're in the poor for there, expect a lengthy wait.

Good luck if your on a course for Chester by the looks of things, I've heard there's plans to help resolve the delays with DIs and some courses may be put back until the covid delays are resolved.

Trainees for Other depots in the north/mid Wales & England are still going ahead at chester, it's a specific problem at Chester due to the introduction of the 230's and now the 197 units.
Then there's the catching up post covid, it's a long process and Chester being the biggest depot outside Cardiff has bigger issues as a result.

I failed the bourdon with TFW, I waited 6 months and re applied. I only had to do the Bourdon.. my other passes still
Counted.. not sure if you’re aware of this so thought I’d tell you mate!

Interesting!! I failed the first assessment day at the end of August but there was no feedback so I have no idea where I went wrong. Did you get feedback after your first assessment day or did you find out at the second attempt?

Yes I was stopped on the day from
Progressing.. and told I wasn’t successful, that I had not passed bourdon test so wouldn’t get to MMI stage. When I reapplied I found out about not needing to sit all the tests again that I had already passed. So called DB to confirm it when I got my place on the 2nd attempt. Then only did the parts I failed on the day.

No said unable to give specific feedback just gave some general advice around interview points. Its confusing though as both the people interviewing me kept saying “good” and “excellent” and “great example” etc. Oh well lol

Does seem confusing that they give off a bit to much positive expresstions durng the interview, they should try to be as nutral as possible like they were in the mmi

She didnt give anything away during the mmi thought id failed it

I've been on her case for ages. Feel sorry for her. Lol. Must be swamped with work. Don't think anybody really knows beyond a potential January course tbh. Would be surprised if Holyhead wasn't on the agenda for that.
