I'd ban commentators feeling they have to apologise if a microphone catches a sportsperson use profanity in the heat of the moment.

There is the Magic Roundabout in Swindon, Wiltshire where you can go the opposite way round if it is a shorter route to exit.

Although that is several smaller roundabouts connected by an, in effect, circular two-way road.

I would ban radio stations from playing Christmas music until at least December 1st.

I have just heard an instrumental version of the extremely irritating Christmas Song (the one that starts with "..chestnuts roasting on an open fire..") on an internet radio station that I listen to.

It is only September 12th for ***** sake. <( <( <(
I'd ban Christmas songs until 24th Dec and only allow them to be played that day.

I'd actually like to go one step further than my previous post to this effect, and ban manufacturers altogether from including the cost of the Windows license in the price of their hardware.

If people realised that they were paying a not-insignificant amount of money for the "privilege" of dealing with, and being advertised to by, Microsoft, they might be more inclined to switch to a less rubbish alternative.

As far as I am aware, Swindon is only famous for three good things being 1) Headquarters of the Great Western Railway, 2) The aforementioned Magic Roundabout, and 3) the post punk rock band XTC, famous for their hits "Making Plans for Nigel" (1979) and "Senses Working Overtime" (1982).
Don't forget Hemel also has a magic roundabout. It's about the only thing Hemel is famous for, :( and I live in Hemel .

Wasn't there some survey a few years ago which ranked Hemel Hempstead the most unattractive place in Britain, with Swindon a close second? And both have magic roundabouts... coincidence? :?::?:

In any case, that's what I know it as - the ugliest British town and the home of the lesser-known magic roundabout. Sorry :(

I suspect a correlation between cities that prioritise infrastructure for the car.

Actually Hemel isn't that bad but it was voted the most boring town in England, some time ago :( something I can relate to. I'd rather live in Hemel :D:D:D:D than Watford or Luton (near by towns) though.

I must be at a loose end: but -- mention recently in the "Settlement Association" game on these Forums, of "magic roundabouts" as above, became coupled with a feature of Ditchingham, adjacent to Bungay (Norfolk and Suffolk, respectively) -- Ditchingham is locally famous for its "chicken roundabout". As Wiki puts it: "...a traffic roundabout inhabited by a colony of chickens which has survived the construction of a bypass through their home. An attempt by the authorities to move them led to protests by local residents."

Denham roundabout is similar (just inside the M25 on the M40/A40), with the addition of traffic-lighted T-junctions for the motorway sliproads.
I forgot about that one. I've never driven around it but rode my bike on the paths which can be a bit hair raising especially waiting for the pedestrian lights to change. I can get a bit impatient.

Another thing that annoys me is being a pedestrian, is waiting for the pedestrian lights to change, after I've pressed the little button, no wonder people just cross if there's a gap in the traffic. :(

Oh yes this. Alot of junctions should have far, far higher priority for the pedestrian phase.

Car drivers that can't negotiate mini roundabouts correctly (no, if you're in a car, you don't drive straight over it or cut across the wrong side)
I'd ban drivers who insist on pottering around mini roundabouts when there is nobody else around rather than just driving straight across.

Unless you can see all directions at the roundabout simultaneously, probably not a good idea.

A cynical friend of mine asserts that pedestrian lights are a sham -- a "placebo" as it were, to make pedestrians feel cared-about and catered-for: that in fact, the traffic lights are unaffected by the whole "performance", and just act as they're programmed to do anyway. Admittedly, this chap harbours a lot of rather strange ideas.

There are several mini roundabouts round my way which are re-signed T-junctions. Everybody, including the police, still takes the same line as before, just with different priorities. Any vehicle taking the second exit drives over the central markings (paint, no hump). Those markings soon get worn away. It seems to work - the accident rate is far lower than when they were T-junctions.

Booking. com, who place "Private bathroom" two thirds of the way down the filters list, even below things like "hot tub" and "fitness centre". I would think a private bathroom is an absolute priority for many people, certainly is for me, and should be right at the top of the list.

This is true for many lights where they are really there to control the traffic flow and pedestrians only get a green because it is the turn for the traffic from that direction to get a red.

Different story of course where the pedestrian phase requires all of the traffic to stop or it is just a Pelican crossing.

Interestingly (or not, depending on your point of view) several of the junctions round our way have had a pedestrian phase automatically programmed in without the need to press the button as a Covid prevention measure. There are even signs telling people not to press the button.

I think those Omaze - Million Pound House Draw adverts on the TV should be banned.

They are promoted as a means of raising money for charity, but the chance of you actually winning the house worth £1 million are very small.

Not only that, if you did actually win the house, would they provide you with the money to maintain it, and pay all the bills.

Think of the council tax and energy bills, not to mention the cleaning, maintenance and repairs.

If you did win the house, the best thing to do would be to sell it as soon as possible, and pocket the proceeds.

Landlords or letting agents who put misleading information in their listings: if I choose to omit studios and house-shares from my search, why are the first 6 results listed as one-bedroom apartments when they're actually studios or house-shares?

Or you ask for houses in one area and get a load of houses miles away, most of which are actually already sold.
