On this subject, can't resist mentioning the following (which I have recounted before on these Forums). It concerns the late William Rees-Moog (Jacob's dad). It appears that when travelling by train en famille, R-M invariably leapt up and performed this action whenever a tunnel was entered. His wife always told him, "It's all right, William, you don't need to do that -- they stopped using steam engines years ago"; but that message never got through to him. I like the thought prompted here -- that even fiercely dogmatic Press demagogues, totally convinced of their own rightness and righteousness in all things, can be nitwits over small matters.
