Let's hope the tour can conclude happily for everyone and those who were unwell get well soon.

It’s not the first 91 via that side of the triangle - there’s been at least one occasion where 1E06 0650 GLC - KGX was diverted to (and terminated at) Carlisle with a 91.

91130 to Carlisle, then off to Donny on Sunday for G(?) exam. What will work tomorrow remains to be seen.

On the tannoy the reasoning given was "to give everyone a longer break" so that may well be part of it.
Novavirus if that’s what it is is contagious for a couple of days.

They really shouldn’t be sending infected people to Hotels in Carlisle!

The tour is going ahead tomorrow, unless a major disaster befalls it (eg not a virus, but something like nuclear war).

91130 will stable at Carlisle station tonight and will be dragged back to the North East via Hexham by a GBRF 66 tomorrow. Not clear where in the Newcastle area the 91 will be left as the 66 is heading to the Port of Tyne, but 91s aren’t cleared up the branch from Bolton.

Beyond there there’s two options being considered, either to attach 91130 to another GBRF light loco move down to Doncaster, or for LNER to move it themselves under its own power.

Many thanks to those at GBRF who’ve worked so hard to ensure the day can be as good as possible given the service, and to those at LNER who’ve enabled the 91 to be used for the revised Mossend - Carlisle leg at such short notice.

Real time trains is showing it as a Class 60, having said that, 66712 turned up early this morning at Tyne Dock from Tyne Yard. 60076 and 60085 seem to be spare at Tyne Dock.

Two separate moves. The move from Carlisle to Newcastle (Or wherever in the vicinity the 91 is detached) will be a 66 that’s come from Preston and heading to Tyne Dock, with the 91 being collected from Carlisle. The move to Doncaster from Newcastle (or wherever the previous move leaves the 91) if the 91 goes with GBRF for that leg is the one that’ll likely use a 60.

69001 seems to be running 0Z69 1430 Tonbridge West Yard Gbrf to Longport F.D. then presumably 0Z70 2115 Longport F.D. to Bescot Up Brook Sdgs Gbrf

Seems unlikely. Why would 69001 run past the West Midlands to go to Longport for an hour and then head back to the West Midlands? I would guess the working from Longport would either be 69002 or both 69001 and 69002 for a double head bonus tomorrow.

If they are ill it’s incredibly poor management of the train they are still on there
There isn't really much alternative if someone is in Oban and takes ill. Where do they go if not back on the charter train? Spread the issue to a Scotrail service as well?

Whilst it is an illness which has befallen the unfortunate travellers, it isn't the sort of thing which requires hospital or similar. The only solution is to move around the train as little as possible and be taken somewhere to rest for the night.

Wrong about hospital I’m afraid it can be more serious than you make out; there was a similar outbreak on the Indian Pacific train in Australia in 2019 which left two passengers in hospital and even made UK media.

Yes, I accept that hospital could be an outcome.

However, for anyone mildly ill the most important piece from the article you quote appears to be to isolate those who are ill (eg keep them in their seat) and get them to a place they can isolate rather than make them take their own way by other public transport - eg as the tour operators have done by going direct to Carlisle and encouraging people not to move around the train.

As long as they are then encouraged if possible to go directly home and not infect hotels etc in Carlisle.

Some of the sick are not exactly “adults” and probably can’t pay tickets under their own steam, especially as they’d then be on other services. We are managing fine. Only 1 in this coach, and they spent a while in the buffet being very well looked after. Most seem to be better now.

According to organisers on the train, there will be no meals for dining passengers tomorrow, as the catering staff are the most exposed to potential illness if there is some bug going around.

Tour staff have been managing very well. It's a shame that people have been getting ill, but the best is being made of challenging circumstances.

The staff onboard have all been handling this incredibly well. I can’t praise them highly enough.

The virus can live on hard or soft surfaces for up to 14 days, so a good possibility of the infection spreading among the passengers tomorrow as well. And this could affect previous passengers as symptoms take 12 to 48 hours to show

Indeed the magnitude doesn’t seem to have been taken in (presumably because it’s unusual on the railway), but you don’t hear of cruise ships after the virus has been detected keeping on sailing to complete the schedule!

The last place you should put someone with norovirus is the buffet car.

Exactly, there seems a total mis-understanding of this outbreak. Putting a contagious person in a catering car really highlights this.
