I was not seriously suggesting that the Eclipses would be used, but options are limited unless something is drafted in from elsewhere. The gas buses were obtained with Government funding applied for by South Gloucestershire, so they should not really be available for the 349.
Whilst the bid was led by South Gloucestershire Council (as one council needed to act as lead), it was a joint award with Bristol City Council. https://news.bristol.gov.uk/news/fu...ross-bristol-bath-and-south-gloucestershire-2

Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire Council, in partnership with First Bus, were also successful in securing £4.8 million of grant funding last year, which will unlock up to £30 million of private investment from First to introduce up to 110 new gas-powered buses into the fleet. These buses will start entering service in 2019, providing a further boost to improving air quality in the city.

It would be rather odd were the gas buses to be purely an SGC affair and then be employed on routes like the 6/7 and, to a fair degree, the 17.

Ha, I was being a little facetious too, but they were the only ones that came to mind as having recently become available. Didn't realise (or forgot) that 66723 had left, but as far as I am aware the rest haven't officially yet been withdrawn.

66723 entered service last week at Swansea Ravenhill depot, and is an indirect replacement for fire damaged Enviro300 67433, latterly based at Port Talbot.

Driver Trainer 66728 is also now with First Cymru.

So, unless I've missed it, there has still been no communication from First about the service changes this coming Sunday. Considering that some of the times have been on Traveline for weeks, this seems extremely poor.

What we have is that at the first major timetable change under the new leadership they can't be bothered to communicate anything even 3 days ahead to the people that pay their wages. Not even a "there are changes coming on xxx date, we'll let you know what they soon" way. Even if there are issues at West of England Combined Authority (WECA) with confirming what is happening (are there?) there simply is no excuse for this lack of warning.

They aren't going to keep people using the buses if they can't be bothered to warn them of imminent changes.

Poor show, First, poor show.

The first timetables are up on the first website but they are on the timetables page instead of where they were for the last 2 years.

On the First West of England website, SOME new timetables are shown under TIMETABLES - FORTHCOMING. These are all Bristol City timetables, nothing for north Somerset. Under 'Planned Changes', still no information. Travelwest shows new timetables but there are errors eg X7 journeys on Mon - Fri are shown operating to Walton St Mary but returning from Six Ways!

The changes are now on the Planned changes section of the website.
And there is nothing here about dramatic cuts to services like the X9. As above the new timetables in 'forthcoming' do not include any of the Weston and Excel services - in fact they only show minor changes for one week only and none of the significant changes - so we are still somewhat in the dark. Traveline still shows a dramatic cut to the X9. But is is possible that the future Traveline timetable is just a Weston board and not the full service? It just looks so odd otherwise and is not consistent with "There are minor changes to early morning and evening journeys to provide a more reliable and punctual service." I am not familiar with the Nailsea and Clevedon routes so this is rather a stab in the dark...

It also says Sundays will be every hour so i would be surprised if they ran it less frequently Monday - Friday. I think you're right; it might be just the Bristol or Weston board and not both (if they are both running the route that is otherwise could just be a mistake).

The Covid-era timetable page with most recent update dates has now disappeared from the website. Looks like we're now being forced to use the utterly abysmal auto-generated timetable and PDF pages instead.

Yes but there is conflicting information between the X9 timetable changes between the Traveline and First websites. I would go with what First says. It looks like it won't be as drastic as we thought.

When will the AirportFlyer MMCs return from Somerset Passenger Solutions? Was the reason they were initally sent down there due to lack of demand from airports?

Is there also a reason why 35275 is down there out of the entire LeedsCity Batch? It just seems a bit random but I understand that SPS have age limits on the stock they use.

From my understanding, Leeds sent two or three StreetDecks down. Must have returned with the new influx of E200MMCs at SPS

There was a really good turnout for the last day of Abus running the 349, on behalf of First. Alan Peters was at the helm of Bristol LD 969 EHW. Photos taken at Bilbie Green are attached below.

Also out today were Alan’s first new bus, Daf M645 RCP, Bristol LD 972 EHW and Bristol VR XJJ 653V.

From tomorrow the 39 will only run early mornings and evenings, with the X39 running every day of the week instead, now that the 349 an evening and Sunday service.

The 17 will also stop serving south Keynsham on weekends from the end of September.

I got on the 11:00 departure from Broad Quay yesterday. It was good. I got on Bristol LD8518 972EHW and XJJ653V, both on the 349. I got LD8518 972EHW to Keynsham then got XJJ653V back to Bristol. It was a good day out. I also spotted M645RCP and LD8515 969EHW. I also saw FD02 UKR and AP04BUS, all on the 349.

There seem to be double deckers on the 17 today so it is not going to be run by single deckers as planned. It is just being run by Scania N280UD ADL Enviro400 Cities as normal. Another observation on Bustimes is 47559 SN64CLF on the recently awarded Sunday Services on the 12 and 622. The Monday to Saturday service is run by Stagecoach. I also spotted that the X1/X3 have some workings from Marlborough Street/ Lawrence Hill Depot. The X7/X9 have some workings from Weston Depot. The 349 is B9TLs today with 37350 WX57HLM, 37357 WX57HLW and 37629 WX58JYR. The Workings provided from Marlborough Street/ Lawrence Hill Depot on the X1/X3 are 37330 WX58 HKL on the X3 as of now and 33413 WA56 FUE on the X1 as of now. The Weston Depot workings on the X7 and X9 as they are interworking today are 33554 SN58 CGE and 33550 SN58 CFV.

75/76 coloured B9TL's have started to be fully branded up as citylines | blue

Does this now encompass more services?

The Excel services have been split between Weston and Marlborough Street, I understand, to improve efficiency. However the X2 should solely be Weston and X8 solely Bristol worked.

Rightly or wrongly, I am firmly of the belief there was never any international to actually split the 17 at Kingswood, or operate with single deckers.

Sounds great. Wish I'd have known about that!

A novel way to brand the service, as geographical branding wouldn't really work.
In the absence of a geographic "hook" and being multiple services, it makes sense for those to be branded in that way. Mind you, the 1/2 have the one example (37335) being branded for Citylines 2 but I can't recall how much interworking goes on between the 75/76.

I'd have expected the 12/622 to be Streetlite operated. Be interesting to see what the 82 in Radstock gets on Tuesday - it's been Solo operated with Somerbus and FromeBus.

As you know there has been a lot of interworking with the 90s, so assuming that arrangement continues, we could perhaps see red fronted streetdecks painted in this way too, as Citylines south wouldn't work for the 75/76.

It changes every time the services get redrawn. Over recent times, 75, 76, 90, 91, 92 and 96 have all been seeming randomly interworking across Hengrove. No idea if it continues from the latest revision.

It will apparently be one of the Bath Solo SRs. Anything else will get stuck around Specklemead in Paulton and Greenacres at Midsomer Norton. It was tight enough when Somerbus had YJ64DHU!

It is becoming a bit of a mishmash of branding, some and individual routes, east and now blue.
The branding is consistent (Citylines with a block colour), the sub brand is whatever is operationally possible so a colour is the most basic (for cross city routes), a direction is the next level (for inter-worked routes) and a route number if the allocation can be kept consistent. It's a very good balance between marketing each route (which would obviously be the ideal) and the reality of actually resourcing the vehicle run out (if you cant get the operational side of the company to support things like this then you end up like Stagecoach Cheltenham and Gloucester where it's unusual to get the route number on the front to agree with the route number on the side!).
