Here's one that people might be inclined to disagree with: puzzle magazines that are designed like proper books rather than just magazines.

The main reason for this is that to fill in a Sudoku, crossword or whatever, you want access to the entire page. On a book with a rigid spine, that involves bending the book back on itself, which feels like you are breaking it. The other reason is that when you have finished with the puzzles in a magazine, it feels fine to throw it out, but in one of these book-type magazines, throwing it away feels like you are throwing away a proper book, which seems wrong.

I agree with that, i bought a book of crossword puzzles a few months ago, it very quickly became annoying because of the thick spine.

I hate bending the spine of paperback books - but only if there aren't already any creases in it. If someone's already creased it, then I don't have any issues bending it, nor indeed creating more creases as required. I just can't bring myself to do it on a lovely clean spine. This does make it somewhat difficult to read thick books...

So, as a result, I'd ban hardback books from costing any more than paperback. This way I can buy hardback, at which point the problem goes away!

Things described as ‘hilarious’ on web sites. They will turn out to be something that only a six-year old would find remotely funny.

"Caught On Camera: Hilarious Moment Canary Wharf Banker Gets Out Of Lift At Wrong Floor - Then Immediately Gets Back In And Select Correct Floor" is presumably the kind of thing you mean.

(That one was made by me and is a deliberate overexaggeration of the concept)

Self service checkouts at supermarkets. They go wrong so often and have serious inbuilt attitude problems. I particularly hate the ones where you put the bag or your shopping in the wrong place and it gets all upset and you have to wait for a member of staff to help you out of the pickle you are in.
The ones in our local B&Q went wrong so wrong that they always had to have a member of staff to keep an eye on them. Now the self service checkouts have been got rid of altogether and replaced with standard checkouts with real members of staff.
I disagree. They work nearly all the time for me and are so much faster than the manned checkouts. There is one queue for eight self service checkouts at my local Tesco compared to one queue for one cashier checkout, so being stuck behind trundlebunnies isn't an issue, and eight people can scan, pay and pack simultaneously, so much more time and space efficient.

I would ban dog walkers from stopping and having conversations outside my house whilst their dogs go YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP because they think everything within eye and earshot is their exclusive territory.

I love dogs, but I would like to ban people who think that their badly trained dogs behaviour is somehow your fault.

That reminds me - it drives me mad when dog walkers (and anyone to be honest) decides to stand for a break immediately in front of a bench. If you want to sit down for a break, use the bench, that's what it's there for. If you don't fancy sitting down that's also perfectly fine, but at least leave the bench free for someone who might want to!

People who have far more success at using self service checkouts than I seem to!

I mean how much of the content posted is actually relevant to the article?

I'll raise you the BBC Have Your Say section. Trying to inject anything rational or reasonable is the epitome of futility.

Rather like the ‘what do you, the listener think’ phone-in section of the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2. It’s like listening to the Daily Mail on the wireless!

People who finish their argument with a smug phrase like "...but that's far too sensible, which is why it'll never happen" (trust me, it's not as simple/ clever as you think your supposedly faultless proposal is)

Jeremy Vine has really gone down in my estimations over the last couple of years - he used to seem quite interesting - a bit of a political nerd - but he lays it on far too thick these days - he's the kind of strident cyclist who gives other cyclists a bad name (with his tweets of every bit of bad driving that he experiences) - his show on channel five is the worst kind of "let's have a heated debate" kind of polarised television - any nuance goes out of the window - which is a shame as I think that 2010 Jeremy Vine would be disappointed at how 2020 Jeremy Vine turned out (I guess he needs to have the likes of Owen Jones getting self righteous to try to generate some manufactured controversy to generate media attention to get ratings, but he's gone really downmarket - he used to be better than this)

Sounds a bit like this forum's covid section to be honest

You might think that, I couldn't possibly comment ;)

I'd better not comment either then!

Maybe there's a knack to it, I don't get on with them at all. I usually only use them for small shops when there are long queues at the regular checkouts, the only way I've found to avoid the dreaded 'unexpected item in bagging area' is to not bag anything at all until after I've paid, which tends to irritate people behind me.

It’s the Co-op ones that do me in every time. I got so irritated by one a few weeks ago that kept telling me that that an assistant was coming after every single scan (and being told four times by said assistant that it would be fine from now on), that I just left everything where it was, walked out and went to Tesco’s instead.

When I look up sweet pepper it comes up with bell pepper so may I ask what the difference is?
Isn't "bell pepper" more of an American term? That's enough to annoy some. :)
I thought, though I'm not sure, that all bell peppers are sweet peppers (as opposed to hot chilli peppers), but not all sweet peppers are bell peppers (some being pointed instead of 'bell'-shaped).

Having now looked it up, I can see that they are essentially the same thing, but bell pepper is only used in North America (in addition to sweet pepper), whereas only sweet pepper would be used here. So I'm not sure the shape of the pepper has anything to do with it, which I originally thought it did.

It seems I may be wrong, but I thought these were sweet peppers:

And that these were both sweet peppers and bell peppers:
