Very interesting. Shame nothing else is - but Traveline doesn't cover pure Derbyshire routes, we'll have to wait a little longer to see the revised X70 and 172.

So it is two hourly throughout, 5 journeys north and 6 south. Sticks to main roads and non-stop from Macclesfield to Manchester Airport. Only goes to the Viewing Park at the airport, not what it called the 'interchange' - I don't know Manchester Airport - is that a major dilution of usefulness?

The first southbound journey (from Macclesfield) runs from Leek to Ashbourne via Hartington on all days M-S, whereas the return only goes this way on schooldays.
Two of the journeys only have 5 minutes turn round at Ashbourne, so this could be tight, plus 5 minutes pause time at central Manchester. It would be a shame if it falls down on reliability.
It is only one extra vehicle on the route, possibly none if you include the 013 as being replaced (I don't know what that was), but using resources much more fully....

Saturdays one journey each way runs via Alton Towers giving a new facility, but this means three trips only have five minutes in Ashbourne.
Hulleys already run to Ashbourne on the 110 (and 111, soon to be restored), but these routes are promised 'easily identified dedicated vehicles', so presumably not interworking with the X1.

Hope it is a success!

The Traveline version I can see has indeed omitted the airport interchange stop, strangely, but it is on the route as it runs through to/from the X57.

110/111 is normally Solos. Plus, the routes are random frequencies so would only be useful with the X1 for dead mileage runs (of which there is only 1).
As for 5 mins pause at Manchester, this depends. The Travel South Yorkshire and bustimes X57 show different things. I think we need a more official X57 timetable to come out before we know if there is 5 minutes layover in Manchester.

The Traveline version I can see has indeed omitted the airport interchange stop, strangely, but it is on the route as it runs through to/from the X57.
I think there it's a typo as the Travel South Yorkshire X57 timetable shows the Airport Interchange. I think there is a typo on the timetables too as the Staffordshire X1 times for the Airport Runway is the same as the times Travel South Yorkshire has for departing the Airport Interchange.

Seems to be a bit of a mess. Bit like the X57 to be fair. One of the councils thinks it stops in the coach station, not outside and also gives it completely different timing points. I think Hulleys need to set councils straight and release their timetable bus open data which should then help sort it all out.

Five minutes from Hartington to Bottom House (8 miles) on the PM school journey looks good for an exciting afternoon out, better than what is on offer at Alton Towers and at a much lower price. Even the 10 minutes given in the opposite direction for the am journey will make for some lively seat hanging onto given the double S bend between Onecote and Warslow!

I think several elements of the timetable are rather ambitious, especially given the traffic conditions between the Airport and Macclesfield, and the nature of the roads through Staffordshire. Not something that is going to aid the reliability on such a long journey, and which will ultimately affect passenger numbers if the reliability is poor.

The x1 timetable is available on bus times but I can't post data here as I'm not in a position to transcribe the information.

Edit. Just seen post above. Soz

Has anybody used the X98 or X99 services to Skegness and Scarborough yet? Thinking of doing both this weekend and wonder how full they will be?

I have used the Skegness service but it was outside of school holidays so numbers may currently vary. Based on my journey there were circa 8 people board at Sheffield, 20 at Chesterfield and 1 at Mansfield, on the whole everyone was doing the day trip although 4 more boarded on the return journey after a week away.

Bus was comfy, not sure if its official but our driver allowed a toilet stop at Mansfield Bus Station both ways. We were 30 mins late getting into Skegness but you would have been delayed travelling by car also, however, we were on time to the minute on the return journey.

I'm led to believe the X57 and X1 are interworking so a through journey from Sheffield to Ashbourne is entirely possible.

Another one I didnt see coming! I have just logged onto Facebook to find Hulleys are taking over the daytime Chesterfield - Holymoorside route from Stagecoach which is quite significant as albeit by a narrow margin, the Chatsworth Road corridor in Chesterfield will see more Hulleys rather than Stagecoach buses per hour from 6th September.

Apologies, I am really useless at posting links from Facebook if anyone else could oblige

Annoyingly the new timetables are still not up on the Derbyshire website - which is normally pretty good. On Hulley's website they are only on their Facebook page and as a technophobe I can't do much with this except screw up my eyes and just see most of it.

It appears that on summer Saturdays the X1 arrives in Ashbourne at 17.10 and leaves at 16.50 (normally leaves at 17.15) and runs via Alton Towers. This is different from Traveline which has it departing at 17.15 on summer Saturdays and 17.30 at other times. On the Hulley timetable this journey is allowed an extra 15 minutes between Macclesfield and Manchester Airport. The preceding journey is also different on non-schooldays... This 16.50 on Saturdays could run off the 110 as there is an arrival at Ashbourne at 16.25 (Mon-Sat) which departs at 17.10 Mon-Fri but not at all on Saturdays - so maybe could do the X1 at 16.50.

One would have thought the 110 and 111 would provide a good opportunity to virtually complete the circle and get drivers back to base. Instead we have a 20 minute turnround at Ashbourne which is reduced to 5 minutes on some journeys, little recovery time at Manchester Airport or the city centre and 15 minutes turnround time at Sheffield after virtually a four hour journey. I do worry whether this can be reliable, whereas the first iterations of the X57 worked quite well. I do hope it can!

Running times look incredibly tight on the 84 Holymoorside-Hospital route, especially knowing how congested Chatsworth Road can be.

It appears as though the DCC supported evening service will still be operated by Stagecoach running every 2 hours at roughly the same time as Hulleys commercially operated X72 from Chesterfield which duplucates most of the 84 route!

bizarre!

Dose anyone know if a Derbyshires Wayfarer & System one is valid for the full X57 route?
With a Wayfarer being valid from Sheffield to the Derbyshire border West of Glossop and System one being valid to Glossop, you should be fine with both tickets.

I have seen a photo on Twitter of Optare Solo 9 (MX09 AOF) wearing a livery of royal blue roof and skirt, white window surrounds and dark blue stripe beneath them. I presume this is one of the “easily identifiable dedicated vehicles” promised for the 110/111 in the service changes image Hulleys posted online (it certainly matches the route icon colours).

Does anyone know why the Cheshire East website is saying Hulleys have cancelled the X1 effective from the 8th September - 2 days after commencing operation?

What's happened?

I did notice that the Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) Bus service changes page makes no mention of the X1 (but does mention the X57 heading to the Runway Visitor Park).

Perhaps because there's only one stop within Greater Manchester they don't regard it as a GM service.

There is no mention of an X1 Timetable on Hulleys website except as a footnote on the X57 Timetable. But D&G withdrew 108 between Cauldon and Ashbourne today so I hope Hulleys have still launched the service !

The X1 ran today, though. I believe that some trips were missed, based on comments online.

I think we will have an announcement very late today or it will be around 10am tomorrow about how they wish to proceed. Last note was they were awaiting Derbyshire County Council to reply before they put a post out.

Bustimes tracking today has Enviro 200 no.7 YX09HZJ spending its day on the 110 ending with a 1520(? - should be 1525) to Ashbourne and then working a 1820(?) X57 to Sheffield implying use on an untracked X1 between. https://bustimes.org/vehicles/282471?date=2021-09-06#journeys

I think that was covering a breakdown.

The Tracking isn't working for the new services yet, it's seemingly a Transmach issue (the machines they use).

Hulleys have posted on Facebook:

We’re sorry.

In mid-June we registered new services: the X1 from Ashbourne to Manchester, and the X72 from Chesterfield to Matlock via Bakewell on Monday to Saturday evenings, to provide direct links to new places. At that time, we had more than enough Drivers and more still applying for jobs.

Everything was ready to roll, the process of recruiting more Drivers continued while a small number had left. At the end of last week however, a number of Drivers expected to return to work from sickness absence indicated they wouldn’t be doing so. Other new Drivers who were expected to start this Monday informed us they no longer be joining, and another Driver fell ill.

All of this in just two days for any Operator would be challenging. For a small Operator such as Hulleys, with the best will in the world we were put in an impossible situation. We do not like letting people down and so we’re presented with two options: to try and run all services but cancel journeys at short notice as and when we were unable to cover them, or cut back our network to a level where we have sufficient staff to cover all journeys every day.

For the purposes of stability, we have decided to change our network. From this Thursday the X1 and X72 will not run. The X70 will run every 2 hours on Sundays. The X57 will terminate at Chorlton Street on Sundays and not run through to Manchester Airport. Seasonal services X71, X98 and X99 will also be withdrawn, but as we are aware of passengers having purchased period return tickets on the X98 the 1730 from Ingoldmells will run this Saturday.

We’re sorry that we’ve been forced to make these changes at such short notice and for letting people down. It is not a decision that has been taken lightly or with any pleasure. We want to continue to do our very best for the most with the resources available and we feel this is the best way to do that.

We now need to concentrate our efforts on recruiting staff and providing the best possible service we can, and for that reason we are unable to answer any queries about this here. Passengers intending to travel on the X1 should contact Staffordshire County Council on 03001118000 or email contactus@staffordshire.gov.uk
