Comedian Sean Lock dies aged 58

Really shocked and saddened by this as he was one of my standout favourites, but announced today he died of cancer:

Sean Lock: Comedian and 8 Out of 10 Cats captain dies aged 58

The comedy panel show favourite was best known as a team captain on the series 8 Out of 10 Cats.

Comedian Sean Lock has died from cancer at the age of 58, his agent has confirmed.
A comedy panel show favourite, Lock was a team captain on the series 8 Out of 10 Cats, hosted by Jimmy Carr.
He also appeared on QI, The Last Leg, Have I Got News for You, and The Big Fat Quiz of the Year.
In a statement, fellow comedian Lee Mack, a close friend of Lock's, described the news of Lock's death as "heart-breaking".
"A true original both in comedy and life. I will miss him so much", Mack said.

15 Storeys High was a real gem of a sitcom, if you’re into cynical humour.

I was lucky to see him live in Canterbury a few years ago - it’s the only time I’ve physically ached after laughing. I was hoping I’d get to see him again one day.

Thoughts with his family, especially his three children. 58 is way too young.

I know him best from 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (from watching clips on YT at least), he was utterly hysterical there. A real gut-punch; gone at far too young an age.

Very sad to hear this news. One of the quickest wits in comedy and a huge loss. In his most recent TV appearances he was obviously recovering from illness but I had no idea this was at the heart of things

Such sad news. I find few comedians very funny, but he was without doubt one that I did. His ability to talk about dull things and make it funny was brilliant - carrot in a box was a great example of that.

Yes both videos here have done very well view wise in the last 24 hours, from memory the Carrot in a Box one was on 1.5m views before his death was announced, it's not added another million. The Tribute video is on 1.8m views at time of post, and if it adds 200k in the next 2 hours it will be 2m in its first 24 hours live.

He was absolutely brilliant in 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown. His bizarre mascots were gems, especially the cocktail made of a different drink for every letter of the alphabet. RIP.

When you hear of people passing it's usually pretty sad, others it's a gut punch....this is the latter. Most things he was in he made so much better and Cats Does Countdown will never be quite the same again.

Watched that last night - brilliant couple of hours. As a non-coffee drinker, I particularly enjoyed his annoyance about people going out "for coffee" as a social activity.

Such terrible news, but I can't feel sad about this, because whenever I look up tribute clips of Sean Lock, he just makes me laugh so much. That 'total comedy' bit he did on Cats Does Countdown has me in stitches whenever I think about it. "I'll have three of your warmest soups."

Rest well Sean. One of a select group of comedians - with Jeremy Hardy, Victoria Wood, Linda Smith - who squeezed a lifetime of laughs into a much shorter span, they were that good. I'm raising a can (of water!) to him on the Highland Chieftain today.
