81622 and 81612 were also reported in the area. 81612 is in Colas livery though.

Many thanks Covshire1. I saw the cranes on the way into Temple Meads from Lawrence Hill, but just couldn't see where the numbers were. I usually find them on the side of the non-rotating structure, but sometimes they're elsewhere - not all cranes seem to carry their numbers in the same place. When I headed back to Lawrence Hill, I had another go, and found the numbers on 80601 or 81612. On one of these the number was on the back of the rotating part - but I didn't have time to find the number on the crane adjacent to it. There was another crane a little further NE of Bristol East Junction (which was the one in Colas livery), and I couldn't see the number of that either. So thanks for your help - very much appreciated.
