I was on the 12.46pm from Euston to Crewe London Midland service today which got as far as Milton Keynes as was a problem with the Train so was taken out of service so was told as we had a London Midland only Ticket we had to wait for the next one to Crewe so was far from happy about that as we got to Crewe over a hour late.

So do London Midland do a Repay thing?

I only have the coming back part of the off peak Ticket so does that matter? and how do i try to get some money back?

Write to Customer Relations.

Tell them the time of your journey, what happened, what time you arrived and attach your ticket.

You should get a full refund in the form of rail travel vouchers.

If they dispute it, which they shouldn't if the information you supply is correct
Photocopy the ticket, keep this as your evidence
Take a photocopy of the receipt, send this along with the ticket
Given it is typically an hourly service you should receive a full refund for half the return fare you paid

Surely under an hour, not over?

EUS 1246
MKC 1324
(Booked CRE 1539)

MKC 1349
BHM 1519

BHM 1536
CRE 1631

Total delay = 52 mins.
(If they had allowed use of Virgin Trains you would have arrived 1448)

Did you choose to wait an hour at MKC or did someone incorrectly advise you?

Did staff at MKC refuse to look up train times or something?

If you chose to wait an hour then I don't see you have a case for more than the 52 minute delay.
Or
If staff advised you incorrectly then ensure that the details are in the letter (give as much info as possible so they can identify the staff and arrange for them to be re-trained)

Delays of 30-59 minutes:
50% refund of single ticket price
25% refund of return ticket price

If you had an Off Peak Return (SVR) @ £33.00 then you are entitled to £8.25
If you had a Super Off Peak Return (OPR) @ £22.50 then you are entitled to £5.65

As I suspect, you were not advised to travel via Birmingham which would have added just 30 minutes and not the 60 minutes
As above, complete the form on the link I provided
Equally, make a complaint in writing as the staff at Milton Keynes have not provided correct travel information (as you asked what the next service you could travel to Crewe on with your ticket)
