Up until the pandemic I was buying Cigarettes in Luxembourg/Italy but obviously that is not an option at the moment.

However I have a couple of trips to Dublin coming up which now qualifies for Duty Free as we have left the EU.

I intend to buy 200 on the way out at Heathrow and the same on the way back in Dublin.

Does anyone know how much a premium brand - ie Marlboro is in each for a sleeve.

I have a horrible feeling they are going to be dearer than over the counter in a normal shop in Luxembourg but I live in hope :E

Don't know the answer - but I hope you know that the 200 limit that applies on your return to the UK refers to the total number of {not UK tax paid} cigarettes you may carry with you - regardless of where they were bought and/or where else you have been. By which I mean - the fact you bought 200 outbound and took them to Eire doesn't somewhow make them "exempt" when you return to the UK. Of course, if you use them all while you are there then all well and good.

Thanks for your input, I am well aware of The Duty Free Limits.

As I alluded to I have been importing Cigarettes from Luxembourg for many years prior to the current hiatus.

Perish the thought that anyone would accidentally exceed the proscribed amounts. ;)

Anyone got a price for 200 Marlboro or Bensons Duty Free at Heathrow / Dublin ?

Whenever I went to Jersey (Before Brexit) I used to buy them and I think it was about £30 for 200 for Mayfair. Normally it's about £30-£40ish for 200 cigs. I don't smoke so I bought them as a gift for a friend of mine.

Bear in mind that about 90% of the cost of Tobacco is tax so without the taxes there isn't really that much difference in the cost of different brands without the tax.

If you are wondering the tax on Tobacco is 25p per cigarette + 16.5% of the cost + 20% VAT. meaning the minimum tax theoretically possible on a pack of 20 is £7.

Well having completed my trip I can now report back.

At London Heathrow they range from £40 odd for a sleeve to £60 odd. I purchased Dunhill International at the higher end of the scale. Big walk through area with plenty of brands on display.

Dublin conversely is pathetic, only about half a dozen brands and they are hidden in drawers at all the outlets so no browsing. Very poor for a major Airport. Prices about the same as the UK.

Compared to Luxembourg the prices in both are more than you would pay in a normal shop with duty paid. Both are ripping people off big style.

In defence of Dublin Airport they have a wonderful Garden Rooftop Smoking Area which puts Heathrow to shame.

Considering the proven health impacts of smoking, I'd counter with "Well done!" on not bowing to the pressure exerted by the tobacco companies.

Indeed, that must be why they've got a lovely open air smoking area in one of the bars in Terminal 1

I think that your assertion that Dublin Airport was "pathetic" regarding cigarettes is frankly insulting.

Ireland has very strict laws on the sale of tobacco products, and their display is prohibited at the point of sale. I don't see why you think that airports should be allowed any derogation from the laws of the land?

If you'd read the whole post I went on to praise the Open Air Smoking Lounge in the Bar in Terminal One which was well patronised by Irish and other nationalities.

The UK has similar laws but this does not prevent browsing in a sealed off area out of sight of the rest of the shop. I was not so much annoyed by the lack of display, more the the limited choice on offer.

For a major Airport I don't feel this is an unfair assertion but perhaps in reflection a poor choice of language.

By the way Airports often have derogation to the laws of their appropriate land in a lot of Countries.

Said smoking area wouldn't be affected by the prohibition of the display of tobacco products though.
