GW - Kensal Green flyover

Now that the HEx depot and everything else non-Crossrail has been removed in the OOC site, does the Kensal Green E&C flyover have much of a current or future purpose? Will it become a maintenance liability with no services normally booked to use it?

It still has uses for getting empty stock between the low numbered platforms and the relief lines. [Having checked though, I don't think the sleeper empty stock uses it which might have been a candidate.]

At the moment it is also useful for accessing the Crossrail depot during a possession of the relief lines.

However, both are niche uses and the second falls away once the tunnel is open.

I suppose the sleeper ECS moves are just the sort of thing it’ll be regularly used for, but presumably if the question of removal to cut costs ever came up in the future that would be a poor justification.

5R04 0450 Old Oak Depot to London Paddington https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C41843/2021-07-20/detailed used it this morning - see "E&C" in the path column. However, looking at future dates, it doesn't appear to be booked that way. It is a bit complicated to work out whether anything else is meant to use it as it is currently used also for reversing stock out of Old Oak Depot going west.

E&C ? What does that stand for ? I know what and where it is; it's just the acronym that I don't know.

I believe it’s just “engine and carriage” line.
