Hi folks.
Just wondering if anyone knows, 1R20 off Glasgow uses the Cathcart circle and onto Newton on some days, does anyone know if there’s a run back via that way northbound? I think 1S06 used to do it on some days but I haven’t seen it do it in a while. I’m guessing it could be competency that’s lapsed in one direction?

1R20 which runs Monday to Friday runs normal route but its Saturday equivalent 1M21 is booked to run via Mount Florida:

Realtime Trains - 1M21 0426 Glasgow Central to London Euston

(Of course whether it actually does run that way in practice is a different issue!)

Don't they run one service via the Circle in order to maintain route knowledge for drivers incase they need to use the route for diversions?

Seems likely that this service is used regularly for this purpose. They also run one northbound service a day in via Wishaw, Holytown and Bellshill for this purpose (which is always more fun to get than the standard routing via Motherwell).

XC used to run via Mt Florida. Not sure if they still do. I remember one night going via Shotts, Hamilton and Mt Florida.

There’s another one that goes via Hamilton, it is a double voyager that comes off of the Saturday service via the west mids into Glasgow. It’s to turn the voyagers I think, Although they often don’t bother turning it as the voyagers go onto do the 1052 on Sunday off Edinburgh, and are turned round the Edinburgh sub. Even though the ECS working from polmadie isn’t timed to do so.

During the week they run 1R20 and the first one off Euston via wishaw and holytown to maintain driver competency.

I find it strange that they don’t send anything clockwise round the circle. But could be lost competency. I think they only really used it when Rutherglen JN was getting renewed anyway.

There appears to be diverts running via Cathcart and Newton platform today due to an issue at Polmadie, 1M07 first to be routed this way.

Odd that 1R20 has such an off pattern headcode if it does nothing unusual.

It's a peak train as it arrives into London around 9am and fits in with all the other peak 1Rxx headcodes from places like Manchester/Liverpool

Have any 390s or Voyagers ever ran via the ex Rutherglen & Coatbridge (present day Rutherglen - Whifflet) since it has been wired?
Voyager does on some mornings to go to Edinburgh from polmadie via the E-G as well as the return on some evenings.

Dont think 390s are cleared this way, correct me if I am wrong though.
I don’t think they are as one was wrong routed at the beginning of this year from haymarket along the e-g, it was supposed to be a voyager but ended up 390 vice, and the driver had to do an emergency stop or at least a very harsh break application from 40-50mph at the platform ramp when he saw the green proceed without the feather to midcalder on Platform 4. And the reason was the 390 wasn’t cleared. So presume it’s not changed and I’m sure the only reason they sign whifflet is because of the Edinburgh ECS

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
Regarding the 390s not being cleared, is this simply a paperwork issue?

The ex Rutherglen & Coatbridge does not have any island platforms (apart from Rutherglen, but that goes via Central Low Level) and does not have any sharp curves, whereas the Cathcart (both sides of the loop) has island platforms with some on curves (Kings Park - Newton is straight).

The curve from Kirkwood to Whifflet is fairly sharp though I doubt this is the reason they aren't cleared

Indeed,a line side fire near the depot resulted in the 09.34 GLC - Euston being cancelled. The following 10.38 departed at 11.05 and was diverted to via the ‘Cathcart’ to avoid the affected area.

Not heard of Avanti going that way. I think TPE do. With a reduced timetable not sure it happens.
