Hi all - the First Transpennine Express train at 18-07 from Manchester Piccadilly to Liverpool Lime St was delayed by approximately 30+ mins yesterday and then on route the service terminated in Warrington. I had to wait for 7 minutes or so to get an East Midlands service into Liverpool. Can I claim my fare back? Ta.

Hi yorkie I arrived at Liverpool Lime St at approximately 7-30 p.m. I had an advance single ticket from Manchester stations to Liverpool stations although my seat confirmation read Piccadilly. Ta.

Due to arrive 18:59, therefore 31 minutes late
You could certainly apply to FTPE for compensation, you should be entitled to RTVs for 100% of single or 50% of return ticket :

How confident are you of the arrival time? Two minutes before 7.30pm and you won't be eligible. Worth applying, unless you already know that it wasn't really half an hour late.

If the OP had asked on the day, we'd have been able to give a definitive answer.

As it was left a day, we can't be sure. But 50% refund for an Advance fare for a short distance is surely not worth the time and bother? That's likely to be £2.75

I'd say the OP was lucky to be allowed to get the next available train, given that it was an EMT service. (Yes the rules do say you can get the next train, but some people claim that this is over-ridden by the fact the ticket is TOC-specific, and what happens in reality is not consistent with either interpretation as it does vary).

You're right - it isn't worth the bother of claiming 2 or 3 pounds back. It's just that I was mightily peed off with First Transpennine - lack of a reason for train terminating at Warrington, delay from Manchester etc.
Thanks for the replies though!

P.S does OP mean ordinary passenger - or is it punter?

OP usually means Original Poster. Nothing to do with trains!

The RTVs are valid for 12 months
If you travel by train then they can easily be used
You can also give them to someone else to use, although the conditions prohibit this we all know it happens
Otherwise the amounts due will just remain with the TOC

Think of it like cold chips served from a fast food outlet
You can complain after eating many of them, but you don't get back the cold ones you have already eaten
These may even cause you health issues later, so even though you were offered a replacement does this prevent you from claiming about spending the following day on the toilet?
