Longest unchanged bus route?

Very interesting to see it has been unchanged for so long and not even a reissue timetable!

Round here it is lucky for 2 months with out a change, let alone 21 years!

I would have no idea where to look although I do know a lot of the services in Newcastle (Stagecoach and Busways before that) have been basically the same for a long time. Most probably not identical but near enough.

A small thing, but that timetable must have been redone at some point because "Tesco Extra" wasn't around in 1989.

If your after the bus route that has operated the same route without any changes then the number 24 bus route in London would win hands down, it has been unchanged since at least the 1920's if not longer. The only changes have been timetabling and operators

I have to dispute a couple of those, Joe Strummer... just from my old neck of the woods

The 145 has been extended from Redbridge Station (its post-1986 terminus) on two occasions post-1987 (and another extension within Redbridge was announced and advertised, but was not introduced), first to Leytonstone Green Man, and then to Leytonstone Station. And the destinations at Dagenham have altered since then as well (was New Road/Fords Main Works, now Asda - which wasn't even there in 1987)

The 175 has had a rerouting recently in Romford to serve the new hospital there.

Can't argue with the others listed that I know though!

I think you'll find the timetable on the 24 has changed several times (as with all these routes). The OP was looking for the longest unchanged timetable.

The 24 is broadly unchanged in route since the 1920s but has changed the route it takes around Picadilly recently due to remodelling of the junction and around Trafalgar Sqaure when the road to the North was pedestrianised.

The WW5 according to Travelline South East has a different timetable as to that on the intalink website and after checking with Wanderbus who operate the route, the timetable changed slightly a few years ago in 2006, it appears that the Intalink website has the previous timetable still showing on there

The 191 service from Doncaster to Finningley operated on the same route from 1922 until 2007 when FirstBus invaded and altered it; the timetable was changed a few times over the period, but the route remained the same.

Never thought of that actually, that wasn't my original question...that list is quite amazing at how many are still running the same route though!

I have noticed that, although the route numbers are listed wrongly on Traveline so I thought it was maybe some error, but maybe not...
...Intalink redesigned (slightly, new font and new traveline number) the timetables recently and I thought they would have checked whether the timetables were still up to date!

The 99 was extended from Erith to Bexleyheath in 2009.
The 150 was exteded from Ilford to Becontree Heath in 2004.
Since last year overnight journeys on the 65 now go beyond Kingston to Chessington.

The 555 from Keswick to Kendal has had virtually the same route (bar changes because of road improvements) since 1923, and had the same route into Lancaster since it was extended in 1973.

Although London route 24 has not changed routing all this time, it has changed operator more frequently than most routes. It was an early loss by LBL, to Grey Green, then absorbed into Arriva, then transferred to Metroline and now London General. Route 24 lost operation by new Metroline Enviro 400s after less than 2 years! It still uses Enviro 400s but a new batch built for London General.

Kettlewell's Coaches, who are based in Retford, have operated a Fridays only shoppers service from Retford to Lincoln to the same timetable for the past 23 years. The first timetable I have for it is dated 9th August 1987.

The Felix bus route from Ilkeston to Derby has ran on the hour, every hour, following the same route from Ilkeston to Derby since the companies formation in the 1920s.

In the late 80s the route was extended from Ilkeston market place to Ilkeston hospital via the Shipley View estate. Due to the town centre being padestrionised. However, Ilkeston market place to Derby remains un-changed timetable wise.

According to wikipedia, the pretty infamous 11, the Outer Circle, in Birmingham, has run pretty much the same route since 1926, and existed before that in two separate sections.
