I see there is a 13.58 Northern Rail service in addition to the normal Sunday Sunderland - Metrocentre servive which usually departs at 28 past the hour. Presumably this is a football special for the Tyne Wear derby which was originally due to kick off at 4pm that day. The match has now been brought forward to a 13.30 KO, but the now useless 13.58 is still scheduled in on National Rail Enquiries. Anyone know if this service will be brought forward or will they add some more units onto say the 11.28 departure? Most likely I will be aboard this train (not looking forward to it)

Best bet would be for it to be cancelled - don't see much point in it still running TBH. I thought that there were supposed to be special free buses going from Sunderland to St. James'?

There are but Ive used them for the last 3 derby games and they are rubbish. Your supposed to board them this time at 10.30am but the problem is it takes the best part of two hours to from leaving the Stadium of Light to get to St James. This is a journey I know I can do in less that half the time using public transport. Its no wonder a lot of people are choosing the train over a bus which never gets above 15mph.:|

Have to say I didn't know that it took so long - no wonder why people as you say will use other means of getting there. Wonder why it takes so long, at most it should take 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. You'd also think buses would be safer, but you'll always get some idiot throwing things at it.

I presume the 13.58 has now been cancelled as a 12.00 departure is now scheduled leaving Sunderland taking 25 minutes. Probably end up getting the 11.28 through, or as I fancy a pint before hand I may get the 10.28 through to the metrocentre for a sneaky quiet Wetherspoons pint:lol:

Could always just go to one of the Weatherspoons on Westgate Rd, unless you'll be wearing a shirt that is?

I'd go early marra, plus if you arrive back on a Metrocentre train you're less likely to be identified as a Mackem at Central (actually I'd get the bus from Moetrocentre to Monument)

Enjoy the game. Best chance in 10 years to turn them over at their dump. :D

They should get some old battered carriages out and get the Sunderland AFC train to haul it.

Got the metro back and was fine although one lad committed a terrible crime and sparked a cigarette up. I must say I felt like joining him:lol:. Other wise everything was good natured on the way back.

One thing I wasnt impressed with was the blatant police lies. At 11am in the William Jameson weatherspoon pub in Sunderland (next to the station) the police came in telling everyone the 11.28 was actually cancelled. What an absolute disgusting lie. Me and the mrs got on it and it was empty!!! We heard from other people at the match that the 12.00 train was too full and the were forced onto the metro which wasn;t policed and on the way there and came across some trouble from some moron NUFC fans. These people are lasses by the way so harldy the type to get involved in a ruck! This all could have been prevented by proper policing and allowing people on the 11.28 even if it meant keeping people back at central till the 12.00 arrived.

As it is, as I was with the Mrs (and not a group of lads) the police allowed us on the train (they seemed to be only letting people they thought wernt going to the match enter the station. Glad I have managed to avoid being herded around like cattle today and for me that is the real result. Was taliking to a lad in the pub who left on the bus at 10.30m and didn't arrive at the ground till 12.45, is it any wonder nobody didnt get the free buses? As for ourselves it was all rather quiet as we kept quiet walking upto the ground.

As for the match fair play on your win today, enjoy it. We can start the fun and games again come January at our place;)

When we played Carlisle earlier on in the year at Brunton Park there was a heavy police presence as well, coming back on the train the police were stopping people getting on when there was clearly enough room for more. I'm not sure what kind of powers they have over this (most likely some sort of crowd control) but when there were no problems in the station this seemed to be unneeded. Plus they were also stopping the general public as well, so I bet a few people missed their connections.
