It's called empty trains, and with that goes empty farebox, and with that goes cuts and the subject of this thread.

I myself am happy to have no payrise and in fact I am moving tocs and taking a near 5k paycut , but don't generalise that train's were all empty. Yes some I drove were , but during the first lockdown I drove a few absolutely rammed train's. I counted one and had just over 400 people in a five car and in others that I didn't count , some days I had people struggling to get on and with their noses in others armpits . Not all empty at all.

You might not think you deserve a pay rise, but I think we do.
I forgot to mention the none annual bonus and the looming threat of redundancy.

You're going to be in for rude awakening. Had the government not propped up rail to the tune of 800k a day you'd be unemployed. Yes, we're lucky to have a job, just look at the aviation industry.

And a fair number of that few could/should have been replaced more effectively by buses or taxis.

Now is the time to massively increase automation and modern ways of working. We found out who the real key workers are - those growing, selling and transporting our food and other goods (vast majority of that being lorries), those keeping the electric running, unclogging our drains, emptying the bins, and keeping netflix and zoom online. The vast majority of those do not travel by train (train commuters are well known to skew to high-paid jobs in cities - the ones that are now working from home)

Flybe had a strong union. Didn't have strong government backing though.

Doesn't matter how strong your union is, in the real world, if you have no income you can't pay wages.
