Having looked at the 225 groups provisional timetable for the 225 sets starting from 7th June it seems the 225s are only going to be doing a limited number of service (a max of 6 each way). Do we know if this is going to be stepped up as time goes a ling e.g. to include more york servies or is it all still up in the air a bit?

It will be stepped up once the May 2022 timetable is in place, believe 5-6 diagrams are required Monday to Friday if the full 6.5tph timetable is implemented.

Any idea if they’ll run through to Newcastle at that point (as York stoppers will be extended to there)? If not then they’ll be kept to Leeds diagrams I’m guessing.

There have been quite a few posts saying they’ll never go north of York, traction knowledge lapsed, thunderbirds withdrawn etc etc. So it looks very much like Leeds by default.

Yes matches most of the interviews in railway mags. London - West Yorkshire only. (Didn’t say Leeds in case Bradford and Skipton are include)

Edinburgh isn't possible anymore because of a lack of traction knowledge. Newcastle would in theory be possible as although Newcastle based crews no longer sign 91s, London crews sign both 91s and the route to Newcastle, but there are no plans to operate the sets as such. It has so far been avoided because of the lack of a thunderbird - the only 91s to run to Newcastle since September 2020 have been empty workings to turn the sets via the High Level Bridge.

Skipton is included in the new diagrams, not sure about Bradford.

I guess if the 2022 plan is unchanged, both the hourly Leeds via Wakefield services have reasonably few stops on the mainline (istr one Leeds-Wakefield-Doncaster-KingsX, the other Leeds-Wakefield-Peterborough-KingsX). With the previous VTEC plans to put them on the Edinburgh route, presumably care would have had to be taken to restrict them to the fast service to keep the timings, due to the slower acceleration of the 91s?

The track access application back then also said they'd be shortening the Mk4 sets to 7 cars so as to maintain 800/801 timings.

There was a 7-car set in circulation last year (saw it in Leeds) but no idea where it is now of if the others will be re-formed by then. We'll still have 800s and 801s in Leeds though, for the 2-hourly Harrogate-not-via-Wakefield service and the Bradford FS/Skipton extensions (both of which will call at Wakefield).

Only Leeds sign Mk4s now.

Kings Cross Train managers are doing refreshers and are being signed off again in Mark4s, unsure of drivers as it will be over 6 months since they drove them, and not Aware of there doing refreshers.

Yes - take a look at the LNER booking engine. 0839 is one (starts back at Skipton). But others exist. Just have LNER as the identification.

Some 80x worked services show that too, the only way to tell from the booking engine is from the seating plan it brings up when you choose your seat - a service worked by an 80x will have a coach A, a service worked by a mark 4 set won’t.

Has anyone seen that EMR advertised jobs for managers implementing IC225 in service for EMR coming from LNER? Does anyone know anything about this, could someone point me anywhere to read up? I tried Google it as well as using this forum's search engine and I can't find a single piece of information suggesting these trains being transferred to EMR apart of those job adverts.

They are now based at Neville Hill which as EMR depot, EMR have the contract to maintain the IC225, could be connected with that.

Yup, definitely: https://jobs.eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk/vacancies.aspx?cat=455

The Materials Manager IC225 Fleet provides governance, oversight and strategic leadership for the provision of materials and management of materials and logistics contracts, for the LNER IC225 fleet being maintained at Neville Hill depot.

It's probably just the scheduled refurbs, but the sets look much better cared for now they've been moved up north.

Transport for Wales have announced they have snapped up 30 MK4 carriages, which look like the ones originally destined for the never ran Grand Central route, between Blackpool North and London.

They will be run between Swansea to Manchester.

Transport of Wales also announced that they have successfully purchased a further 30 Mark 4 intercity carriages that are fully refurbished to a high standard. This will include four trains of five carriages which will enter service on the Swansea to Manchester route from December 2022.

The new trains will include First Class carriages, free Wi-Fi throughout, an enhanced food and drink offer including a buffet car, accessible toilets and baby changing facilities. There will also be wheelchair and priority seating available. The carriages were purchased thanks to funding from the Welsh Government.

1A26 (1115 LDS to KGX) with 91130 has just been cancelled in the platform at Leeds (LDS) due to a train fault.

1A30 (1245 LDS - KGX) also cancelled which should be a 91 and appears on time to Leeds?
Not sure which of these two it’s linked but this has appeared on the track map at Leeds, the train in P8 is a 91:

Edit: appears to be the set that should have worked 1A26.

probably doesnt help that theres a one under at Cramlington. While this wont directly affect the running of mk4 sets out of leeds it is possible some stepping up may occur at Kings Cross and some traincrews may be displaced.

The Mk4s are starting to look pretty tatty - I saw this set in the platform earlier. The white paint on the doors is coming off and you can see a darker coat underneath, the vinyls were pretty dirty and faded too. It was even missing a door button on one of the coaches, with a hole where it should have been on the outside of a coach... They look like they could do with a little bit of TLC.

They were "finishing soon" with many full or part rakes going to scrap within weeks of storage, then a few having a break before a light refresh and return to service. Certain sets been rushed back out after just having the required maintenance exams following the Hitachi saga so probably can't be helped completely. Some of the sights BR left running in the 1980s and 90s from its older rolling stock would beat any mk4 set on LNER I imagine, especially when looking at dirt levels and the safety aspects we now take for granted. It is more common to produce higher standards to the end than BR used to though so a 2021 version of neglected or shabby would be modest in comparison. It is still sad to hear that the defects are greater as they were run down a bit for a spell in store.
