Ticket examiner medical

Hi Guys, I have applied for a position as a ticket examiner on the new Bathgate Line and am a bit worried about the medical, as I am quite overweight and my blood pressure tends to go up now and then.

Could anyone tell me will this bar me from employment.

It shouldn't do, how badly does it fluctuate though? Are you on medication for it? As long as it doesn't make you dizzy then you should have no problem with the job itself. Whoever is conducting the medical may advise you on any lifestyle factors which could help with it, or advise you to visit your gp regularly to keep it in check.

Thanks for the reply mate. For some reason it seems to go quite high now and then. Obviously my weight is a factor, otherwise I am very healthy.

Don't worry about that then, you are certainly not the only one! It is pretty common! Please let us know how you get on regardless. Do you know how many positions there are at Bathgate for TE's?

not sure how many positions there are but as it is the new line, I am hoping there will be quite a few.

But then again, I am not sure if this is the first recruitment drive they have had for the position.

I sat the online literacy and arithmatic test last Monday, and it seemed to go ok, so I am just waiting to hear back if I have been put forward to the interview stage.

As it's not a safety critical role I doubt the medical standards would be as high.

There has been some internal vacancies listed over the past few months, but outside rectuitment will be necessary. Great stuff anyway, all the best with it and perhaps i'll bump into you some point in the future!

The job advert was a bit sketch , just said 35 hours a week , monday to saturday between 05:30 and 00:30 hours.

It is generally a 4 day week, though there will be weeks you work 5 days, 35 hours per week is averaged over the year, so some weeks will be longer or shorter than that. A week of earlys and a week of lates is the norm, Sundays are overtime and not part of the working week, though some are compulsory , and called, "booked" sundays, extraneous sundays are known as "buck shee" sundays and you can make yourself not available for them. In any case, you are paid for them on top of the salary. Shift will change in the coming year or so to a 4 day week, with monday tuesday off week one, wednesday thursday the next and friday saturday the next obviously. Though it will be slightly different in the meantime , i would expect a long weekend at least every 4th week minimum anyway at the moment. If i can find out anything else regarding these posts for sure i will let you know, but please ask about the shift pattern at interview stage anyway, they will furnish you with everything you need to know.

Recieved an email from Scotrail today, just appologising for the delay in arranging interview dates, so I assume I must have past the online assesment and shortlisting.

Does anyone know how many Positions for TE are available for Bathgate, as I hear there had been over 8000 aplicants fot the post

Hi. First time poster, long time lurker. Been lucky enough to get a job as ticket examiner at Bathgate (starting as of next week) Was told there were forming a new team of 30 ticket examiner's. Hope it helps.

To be fair I was only told a 'new team of 30' I assumed they would be ticket examiner's. Perhaps this takes into account drivers as well?

Hi Gerry, I originally applied on September 7th online. Had my interview two weeks ago and was given a conditional offer of employment at the end of it. Medical was a week ago. Recieved a phone call on Thursday saying I passed everything and my start date would be the 8th of Novrmber pending my acceptance. Again, hope this helps.

Should also point out this was my second attemp when applying. I was turned down for the same job in Edinburgh last year so don't be too down hearted if you don't hear anything mate.

Just to update, despite a email a couple of weeks ago saying I had passed screening and was just awaiting a date for interview, I still havent heard anything.
Going by a couple of other threads , it sounds as if all the TE jobs at Bathgate have been filled.

If anyone could confirm this I would be grateful.

Will scotrail contact me to let me know that the jobs have been filled?

Still heard nothing. Scotrail say they are still processing aplications, but as the station opens on Dec 12th I am not holding out hope.:cry:

There's been quite a few intakes for TE's recently, but mainly for other depots, i don't think they are in too much of a rush as it's looking like a skeleton leccy service with diesels running too. Keep hanging in there!
